Sanitation department worker fired
Uniontown City Council fired sanitation department worker D’Wayne Riggar following a two-hour executive session meeting Monday morning. Council unanimously approved a resolution discharging Riggar, who has worked for the city since December 1984, for allegedly violating an agreement he had with the city that required him to deposit his workers compensation check with the city in exchange for his average monthly compensation from the city.
During the investigation, council discussed the results of an investigation into the matter that was conducted by Councilman Robert Cerjanec, accounts and finance department director, and the city’s workers compensation insurance carrier, St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Co of Brandon, Fla., solicitor Daniel Webster said.
He said matter will now be directed to other agencies for further investigation, but declined to identify the agencies.
Webster advised council not to discuss the firing because it could hinder any other investigation and Riggar has rights in the collective bargaining agreement between the city and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees union.
The firing is effective immediately, Webster said.
