Robbery suspect arraigned in Fayette County court
REDSTONE TWP. – Timothy Green will be back in Fayette County today for arraignment before District Justice Mike Defino for a robbery June 18 at the Jackson Farms Dairy Mart on Route 40. Green, 37, of Strabane, Washington County, was arraigned Monday before District Justice Randy Abraham on charges related to an incident at a McClellandtown home that he allegedly broke into, restraining the resident overnight before stealing his car. Green was also arraigned before District Justice William Pelkey in Washington County on charges related to two bank robberies and a convenience store robbery in Bentleyville. He is currently being held in the Washington County Jail in lieu of a total of $500,000 bond.
Redstone Township police have filed charges of robbery, theft and simple assault against Green for the Jackson Farms robbery. According to police, Green allegedly entered the store around 6 p.m. June 18 and told the clerk “This is a stick up.” When the clerk laughed, the suspect reached toward his right side and said, “I have a gun.”
At the man’s direction, the clerk then removed the money from the lottery machine and the cash register and gave him a can of snuff. A total of $259 was removed from the store.
The suspect was positively identified as Green the next day when the store’s videotape was observed by an FBI agent and South Strabane police Sgt. Walter Alrutz, who had been investigating Green for bank robberies in South Strabane.
Around the same time as the Jackson Farms robbery, a Redstone officer received a tip that Green had been seen staying at a house in Filbert. Local and state police surrounded the house, believing Green was inside. A search of the home came up empty. Green has since told police that he was dropped off about a mile from John Sismondo’s McClellandtown home the evening of June 18. State police said he watched the home and entered it after he saw Sismondo leave for work.
Green was captured by Pennsylvania State Police and the Preston County, W.Va., sheriff’s office early on June 20 after police spotted him driving Sismondo’s stolen vehicle on Route 40 near Hopwood.
