Matt Rechichar’s two-run single in the top of the seventh inning Wednesday sparked a six-run rally to carry Colonial 3 to an 11-4 Fayette American Legion Baseball League road victory at Waynesburg. Winning pitcher Jared Slusser scattered 13 hits and helped his cause with a double and single. Chad Rice smacked a solo home run for Colonial’s first run of the game and later added a double.
Bill Gabonay had a double and two singles for the victors while Brandon Mallick contributed three singles. Bob Patterson pitched in two singles for Colonial.
Sammy McLaughlin led Waynesburg (3-11) with three singles with Nick Ross adding a double and single. Scott Cree, Aaron Carpenter and Kevin Moore all had two singles.
California 7, Masontown 5 – Matt Morich’s single drove home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning with a single, then Shane Tonkavitch’s suicide squeeze brought an insurance run in the eighth.
Larry Christinis improved to 2-2 by striking out four and walking three. Matt Hollowood had a double and two singles for California (4-10-1) while Morich finished with three singles. Mike Shumar tripled in the winning effort.
Craig Hriblan had two doubles and a single for Masontown. Chris Buncic had a double and two singles while Ryan Jenkins and Bob Epley both had a pair of singles. Losing pitcher Josh Null struck out six and walked one.
Fayette County League
Bud Murphy’s 5, Brownsville 4 – Greg Beucher’s RBI-single with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning brought home Mark Edenfield with the winning run for a Fayette County Baseball League victory. Edenfield had doubled earlier in the inning – his second hit of the game – and moved to third on Brian Showman’s sacrifice.
Bud Murphy’s led 3-2 after four innings, but Jim Cales’ two-run home run in the top of the fifth gave Brownsville the lead. Bud Murphy’s tied the game with one out in the bottom of the seventh when Josh Belander drove home Beucher after Beucher had singled and stole second.
Chris Fisher (2-0) went the distance for the win, striking out eight and walking two. Kevin Dvorchak struck out four and walked two in the loss, and added a double to the Brownsville offense.
Bud Murphy’s improves to 12-3 while Brownsville drops to 6-9.
