Vacation Bible Schools FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH (DISCIPLES OF CHRIST) OF REPUBLIC announces Godzwerkus Circus School Vacation Bible School Adventure will be held July 8-12 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. There will be songs, crafts, Bible stories and refreshments. A special circus picnic and program will be held on Saturday, July 13, at 11 a.m. on the church grounds. GREATER FAYETTE COUNTY RESPECT LIFE COMMITTEE recently participated in the Two Million Rosaries, which was an international prayer event that called for an end to abortion. The Greater Fayette County Respect Life Committee gathered in the parking lot of the new St. Vincent de Paul Store in Uniontown while a sign on the building adjacent to the new center read “Respect Life.’ Chuck Kosco, president, gave the welcome. Danielle Daley, financial chairwoman, assisted in opening details. Maryann Marcinko coordinated the event. Participating parishes included St. John the Evangelist, St. Mary’s, both in Uniontown; and St. John’s and the Immaculate Conception, both in Connellsville. The five Joyful Mysteries of the rosary were recited. Lucinda Vinoski of Connellsville led the opening and closing prayers of the rosary. Those leading the decades were Marcinko, Amelia Sankovich, Libby Zavora and Kay Zorichak. Divinia Calinao and Dr. Erlinda Aquino of Connellsville provided an icon of Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the unborn child, for the event. OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP/ST. MARY’S ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH IN LECKRONE is continuing its 100th anniversary celebration with a special Mass on Saturday at 6 p.m. Bishop Anthony Bosco will officiate at this Mass in celebration and Thanksgiving of this historic occasion. Every Sunday this summer, children and youths will learn in a different way in Sunday school, using WoRM (Workshop Rotation Model). Continuing through Sunday, July 14, the church will learn in unusual ways about Holy Communion. The schedule includes: June 30, drama; July 7, music; and July 14, cooking. For the remainder of the summer, they start all over again on another subject. This is for preschoolers through high school students every Sunday in June, July and August from 9 to 9:45 a.m.

ROMAN CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF PITTSBURGH announces Bishop Donald Wuerl ordained five men to the priesthood at St. Paul Cathedral Okland last Saturday. They include John B. Gizler, of South Park, who graduated from California University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor of arts in French in 1996; Gary W. Krummert of Kenmawr, Shawn O. Malarkey of Boyers/Murrinsville/West Sunbury; and Matthew R. McClain of Castle Shannon, who all studied at St. Vincent Seminary in Latrobe; as well as Dennis P. Yurochko of Bethel Park.

ROSCOE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 300 Main St., announces Kay Olson, Belle Vernon mezzo soprano, will be the soloist this Sunday at the casual worship service that begins with a continental breakfast served in the manse at 9:15 a.m. Worshippers gather in the sanctuary at 9:45 a.m. for a time of Songs From the Heart as worship begins. Olson is a sexual assault therapist for the C.A.R.E. Center in Washington, Pa., a facility that serves abused people in Washington and Greene counties. She is a well-known area soloist and sings in the chancel choir of First Presbyterian Church in Washington. Assistant church organist Betty Ermlick will accompany Olson.

The Rev. Dr. John Rankin will give the sermon “Ask.’ Hosts for the continental breakfast are Mary and Donald Brumley.

Next Sunday, the soloist will be Olson’s husband, David, who will provide special music for the celebration of Independence Sunday. He is a well-known area instrumentalist and artist.

ST. GEORGE SERBIAN ORTH-ODOX CHURCH IN CARMICH-AELS will hold a prayer service to St. Lazarus of Kosovo and All Serbian Martyrs today at 4 p.m. A dinner and program in remembrance of St. Lazarus and all Serbian martyrs will be held Sunday, following the 10 a.m. Divine Liturgy.

JEWEL CITY CHURCH, Shinnston, W.Va., will host its Second Annual Biker Sunday on July 14. Raindate is July 28. The day begins with a 10:30 a.m. service. There will be eight bikes on stage and the message will be geared to the event. After the service, there will be a free dinner on the grounds that will include a pig roast and chicken roast. The gospel group Search will minister in song during the meal. At 2 p.m., there will be a bike ride that begins at the church and goes to Cool Springs, Rowlesburg, Kingwood, Morgantown and back to the church. TOURS TO SHRINES IN EUROPE PLANNED: Fall and winter trips are planned for European destinations. Sept. 17-27 will be a tour to the Grotto of Lourdes, France, and in Paris visits to Notre Dame, Miraculous Medal shrine, tombs of St. Therese and St. Bernadette. In October, a group will visit Romantic Germany, including Munich, Bavaria, Salzburg, Vienna Austria. The tour to Italy on Nov. 10-19 will include Rome (attending a Papal audience), Naples, Capri, Sorrento, Amalfi Coast and Pompeii. A tour of Italy is planned Nov. 10-19 and includes Rome, Vatican City, Montecassino, Sorrento, Capri and Amalfi Coast. The participants will attend a papal audience and visit major religious and historical sites. Dec. 1-8, a tour to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe will be held.
