First in Flight Ministry to hold camp meeting”With this camp meeting, we’re trying to bring some unity to the community,’ said the Rev. Kamau Wilson.
Rev. Wilson is speaking about the upcoming First in Flight Ministry Camp Meeting 2002, which will be held July 8-12 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Uniontown Area High School Auditorium. Rev. Wilson is founder and pastor of First in Flight Ministry, an outreach of the First Baptist Church in Lamberton, German Township, which is also pastored by Rev. Wilson.
Although affiliated with First Baptist Church, First in Flight is reaching out to pastors of all denominations to join the ministry. Several pastors will speak at the Uniontown camp meeting.
They include: the Rev. Richard Calloway of Mount Ararat Baptist Church in Cardale, who will be speaking July 8; the Rev. Tim Smith of Keystone Church of Hazelwood, who will speak July 9; Rev. Wilson is scheduled to speak July 10; the Rev. James Cherry of Triedstone Baptist Church in Aliquippa is on the agenda for July 11; and the Rev. Vincent Winfrey, pastor of Mount Olivet Baptist Church in Uniontown, will speak July 12.
“The purpose of the camp meeting is to bring the community together,’ said Rev. Wilson.
“We want to focus on leadership and to bring the community back as a whole. This is for everyone.”
First in Flight Ministry is hoping to receive support from throughout the community for the camp meeting, which will also feature the praise and worship team from First in Flight.
“We especially want to encourage pastors and church leaders so they know they’re welcome,’ said Rev. Wilson. “We want to encourage them to come out and support this.’
Camp Meeting 2002 will also focus on youths and organizers are hoping for support from them.
In the future, First in Flight Ministry plans to do camp meetings at California University and at Waynesburg.
The ministry would like to build on the success of the Uniontown camp meeting.
“This is a total spiritual uplifting for the community,’ said Rev. Wilson. “We’re looking forward to this to have an impact on the community.”
