Catherine Esper Coughenour
Catherine Esper Coughenour, 83, of Uniontown, Pa., died Friday, June 28, 2002, in Brownsville General Hospital. She was born September 13, 1919, in Uniontown, Pa., daughter of Michael Esper and Marsha Barkett Esper.
Mrs. Coughenour previously operated Ann’s Caf? in Uniontown.
She was a member of St. George Maronite Catholic Church in Uniontown and The Ladies Guild of the church, and was a volunteer at the St. Vincent DePaul Store and also with the Uniontown Hospital Auxiliary.
Her true passion and energy were devoted to her association with the service to the Parents and Friends of the Developmentally Disabled of Fayette County. She was very instrumental in raising funds for improving the lives of people with mental disabilities and for the construction of the first community living home in this area.
Her husband, Alvin Coughenour, a son, Thomas “Tommy” Coughenour, a brother, Joseph Esper, two sisters, Ann Mullen and Jeanette Surgenor, and parents preceded her in death.
Surviving are two step children: Roy Coughenour of Virginia and Dorothy Lonce of Uniontown; three brothers: Michael Esper and his wife, Pauline, of Connellsville, Pa., George Esper of Boston, Massachusetts, and Thomas Esper and his wife, Polly, of Uniontown, Pa.; two sisters: Rose Jabour of Gardner, Indiana, and Freda Nypaver of Uniontown, Pa.; nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the JEROME W. SHELL FUNERAL HOME, 164 South Mount Vernon Avenue, Uniontown, Pa., today from 2 to 9 p.m. and Monday, July 1, until 9:30 a.m. when a Blessing Service will be held.
A Funeral Mass follows at 10 a.m. in St. George Maronite Catholic Church, Lebanon Terrace, Uniontown, with Rev. Fr. Joseph David as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown.
The Ladies Guild of St. George Maronite Church will recite the Rosary in the Funeral Home today at 4 p.m.
