MVH to present California programs
CALIFORNIA – Monongahela Valley Hospital’s Healthy Directions health education resource center at 310 Third St. in California will present two special programs and participate in a number of national observances in May. The schedule will run as follows:
– Monday, May 6, at 1 p.m., an educational presentation on “What About High Blood Pressure?” will be presented. Advance registration is requested at 724-938-7266.
– Monday, May 20, at 1 p.m., the focus will be on “Bicycle Safety” in an informational program. Advance registration also is requested for this presentation.
Meanwhile, Healthy Directions will participate in the observances of these national events – Allergy and Asthma Awareness Month, Arthritis Awareness Month, Bike Month, Hepatitis Awareness Month, High Blood Pressure Month, Stroke Awareness Month. Free information will be available on these topics during regular business hours throughout the month.
Also in May, free osteoporosis risk assessments will be offered during regular business hours.
On-site laboratory services are offered Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to noon at Healthy Direction in California. A doctor’s prescription is required for all laboratory tests conducted at Healthy Directions.
Blood drawn and urine specimens collected at the California station will be tested at the laboratory at Monongahela Valley Hospital, and results of the testing will be sent to the physician designated by the patient.
In addition, free blood pressure testing also is conducted Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Healthy Directions in California is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
In addition to special programs and screenings, Healthy Directions offers a health education resource library of books, pamphlets, videos and other information. A referral service also is available as well as private health education counseling.
