Uniontown Hospital observes Volunteer Week
The Uniontown Hospital Auxiliary recently celebrated National Volunteer Week by hosting an awards luncheon at the Uniontown Country Club. This year’s theme for National Volunteer Week was “Volunteers, A Gift to the Community.”
At the event, auxiliary members were recognized for their many hours of volunteer service. Awards were presented to members with 100 to 15,000 volunteer hours.
Martha Lou Taylor, auxiliary president, presided over the ceremony, and Jackie Bartoni, director of volunteer services, presented service awards. The Rev. Neil Hoppe, pastoral care volunteer, gave the invocation.
The Uniontown Hospital volunteers receiving awards for 100 hours of service were Sara Petro and Anita Rotonto. Volunteers recognized for reaching 500 hours of service were Irene Gerwig, Rosemary Jendral and Arlene Klinge.
Commended for providing 2,000 hours of service were Cindy Adams, Ruth Coughenour, Marjorie Cramer, Josephine Gerba, Cindy Jones, Charlotte Klein, Edna Marker, Lois McDonald and Donna Wolfe.
Betty Stefan and Carol Wilson were commended for reaching 3,000 hours of service. Receiving awards for providing 4,000 hours of service were Leah LaPresta, Martha Lou Taylor and Betty Walls. Evelyn Mohney was awarded for achieving 5,000 hours.
Special acknowledgements were presented to Betty Stein, who began volunteering in 1967, for exceeding 11,000 hours. Stein has been volunteering for 35 years.
Theresa Gentilcore was commended for exceeding 15,000 hours of volunteer service. Gentilcore joined the volunteer program in 1969 and has been volunteering at the hospital for 33 years.
Additionally, special recognition was extended to members of the hospital chaplaincy program.
In 2001, more than 200 volunteers gave more than 35,000 volunteer service hours to the hospital.
