Services announced Womankind event set

Area woman are invited to meet Sally Wiggin, co-anchor for Channel 4 Action News, and take part in a host of health and wellness activities at the second annual Womankind event to be held on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Brownsville General Hospital.

Womankind 2002, coordinated in partnership with National City Bank and the American Heart Association, will offer more than 25 displays, screenings and informative presentations.

Highlighting the day dedicated to the health and wellness of area women will be Wiggin’s 11 a.m. presentation addressing her reaction to her recent diagnosis of heart disease.

Financial advisor, MarKay Long from National City, will present valuable financial tips on personal investments at 10:30 a.m.

The day’s events include presentations on light cooking, weight management, benefits of exercise, financial planning, resources for healthy women and self-defense. Free health screenings on blood sugar testing, body fat analysis, cardiac risk assessment, diabetes assessment, pulmonary function and stroke screening will be available.

For pampering, aromatherapy, beauty product samples, floral arranging, makeup demonstrations and massage therapy will be provided. Displays on arthritis, crime victim center, exercise and fitness, healthy heart information, living wills, Medicare 2002 insurance concern, medication review, mental health and wellness, osteoporosis, sleep disorders will be on-site.

All participants have the opportunity to win a three-month membership to the hospital’s new Wellness Center and a private consultation with an exercise physiologist.

There is no charge for attendance at WomanKind 2002 and light refreshments will be served. For further information or to make an appointment for the stroke screening, call 724-785-1999.

Educators to be honored

Fayette Chamber of Commerce members, area educators, students and parents are invited to attend the reception Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Uniontown Holiday Inn to honor the 2001-2002 educators of the year.

There will be a $3 per person charge for refreshments. Reservations are required. Call the Fayette Chamber office at 724-437-4571 no later than Monday.
