Turkeyfoot 3, Shanksville 2 – Turkeyfoot Valley put together three of its four hits in one inning, including a clutch triple by freshman Vanessa Wheatley, to stun host Shanksville in a West-Pac South game.

Shanksville (7-2) entered the game as the No. 2 team in the conference.

Jess Sidone struck out 15 and walked just one in tossing the four-hitter for Shanksville, but was out-dueled by the Lady Rams’ Shelby Glover, who fired a three-hitter with six walks and four strikeouts.

Turkeyfoot (5-6) scored all of its runs in the third inning. Ashlee Garletts led off with a double, Ashley Tressler walked and Jenette Augustine laid down a bunt single to load the bases. Sidone got the second out and looked as if she might get out of the jam, but Wheatley then drilled a three-run triple.

Glover made sure the 3-0 lead stood up. She surrendered one run in the fifth and one in the sixth, but pitched a scoreless seventh to wrap the victory.

The Lady Rams travel to Bishop Walsh, Md., for a 12 p.m. game on Saturday, then travel to rival Rockwood for another conference game on Monday at 4 p.m.

Chartiers-Houston 10, Mapletown 0; Chartiers-Houston 9, Mapletown 0 – The only thing between Chartiers-Houston’s Jen Alderson and two no-hitters on the same day wound up being Mapletown’s Brittani Schock.

Schock singled in the sixth inning of the second game in the Lady Bucs’ Section 1-A doubleheader sweep, to give the Lady Maples’ their only hit of the day.

Anderson struck out 17 and walked three in tossing a no-hitter in the first game. Shana Tarr tripled, and Colleen Kelly and Elexis Riggle each doubled for first-place Chartiers-Houston (11-2, 7-0), which took advantage of six Mapletown errors.

Losing pitcher Elizabeth Novak, who gave up six hits and three walks, kept Mapletown in the game for a while. She allowed two runs in the second, four in the fifth and four more in the seventh.

Alderson kept Mapletown hitless for five more innings in the second game before coughing up Schock’s hit. She struck out 13 and walked one, and added a double with the bat.

Kasey Kapis was 4-for-4 with a triple and a double, and Tanesha Minney had two doubles for the Lady Bucs. Chartiers-Houston scored in every inning except the fifth.

Mapletown (2-12, 2-7) is back in action again today when it hosts Clay-Battelle in a non-section game at 4 p.m.

Brownsville 4, California 1 – Brownsville defeated visiting California to set up a Section 1-AA showdown against first-place Greensburg Central Catholic today at 4 p.m.

The Falcons (8-2, 8-1), who lost at GCC earlier in the season, 4-1, can force the Centurions to split the section title with them by winning on their home court. Greensburg Central Catholic is 9-0 in section play.

A victory would earn Brownsville its fourth consecutive section plaque.

“We are very capable of beating them, as long as we stay poised and focused,” Brownsville coach Dan LoNigro said. “We have to stay within ourselves, stay aggressive and have that killer instinct. We’ll have the home court advantage, and we usually have a decent crowd at our matches, so that should be a boost to us. Hopefully, the boys can come through.”

Brownsville swept all three of its singles matches against the Trojans (5-8, 2-8), with Ryan Minor at No. 1, Josh Seelye at No. 2 and Neil Chafin at No. 3 all winning by 6-0, 6-1 scores over Matt Nevala, Phillip Keefer and Justin Schaum, respectively.

The Falcons’ No. 1 doubles duo of Luke Lucostic and Elliott Sally beat Jarrod Pagac and Jessica Furnier, 6-2, 6-1. Elliott was honored before the match as Brownsville’s lone senior.

California’s lone win came at No. 2 doubles where Kevin Stile and Tom Hasbrook won a tough battle against Ian Glumac and Ken Hamlin, 6-4, 7-5.

Section 5-AAA doubles – Connellsville’s tennis doubles team of Ryan Hornick and Josh Martin knocked off teammates Steve Lucas and Matt Ratai, 6-1, 7-5, in the Section 5-AAA doubles tournament consolation match on the Falcons’ court to qualify for the WPIAL tournament to be held at North Park in Pittsburgh on Monday.

Both Falcon duos lost in the semifinals.

Hempfield’s Rishi Bajah and Justin Repasky beat McKeesport’s Jake Bezeck and Tyler Brandt in the section final, 6-2, 6-3, which was held at Washington Park.
