Pilot program announces specific day of inseason trout stockings
Area anglers will be among the beneficiaries of a new Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission pilot program that has pre-announced specific “day of” stocking information for inseason weekday trout stockings. The announcement came at last week’s spring meeting of the Commission.
Meadow Run and the Youghiogheny River in Fayette County and the delayed harvest area of Laurel Hill Creek in Somerset County have been included in the program.
The Fayette County stockings will take place Thursday, May 23.
Meadow Run will be stocked from the confluence with Beaver Creek downstream to the confluence with Laurel Run, and the Youghiogheny River will be stocked from the outflow of the Youghiogheny River downstream to the mouth of the Casselman River.
Somerset County anglers won’t have to wait as long, as the pre-announced stocking on Laurel Hill Creek will take place on Tuesday, May 14. The delayed harvest area of the creek will be stocked from the Route T-364 bridge immediately upstream from Laurel Hill Lake to the Laurel State Park boundary line at the Boy Scout camp.
The program is similar to the Saturday stocking programs, which have worked well in providing increased fishing opportunities for stocked trout, particularly for families.
