Community calendar – May 8
BROWNSVILLE FREE PUBLIC LIBRARY, 100 Seneca St., Brownsville, will hold an open house today from 1 to 4 p.m. in celebrattion of the arrival of public access computing. With a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the library purchased two new Gateway computers and new laser printer and connected them to the Internet. Staff members will demonstrate how to use the computers today during the celebration. UNITED MINE WORKERS OF AMERICA LOCAL 6290 will meet at 10 a.m. Friday at the Nemacolin Union Hall, Nemacolin. This important meeting will be nominations and election of local union officers. All members and widows are urged to attend. Dues will be collected for 2002. A hot lunch will be served from 10:30 a.m. until noon.
ARC OF FAYETTE COUNTY will hold a spring fund raiser on May 17. A “Bake Off” and Murder Mystery Dinner Theater will be held at Becker’s Shady Side Inn. A silent auction will also be held. Cost is $40 per person. For tickets call 724-438-8416.
UNIONTOWN FLOWER CLUB will meet at 1 p.m. Friday at Trinity United Presbyterian Church. Guest speaker will be kitty Pottmeyer from Pittsburgh. She will direct a Basic Flower Arranging Workshop. Members are to bring workshop materials for use in flower arranging.
ST. JOHN ALTAR SOCIETY, Perryopolis, will observe communion Sunday on Mother’s Day at the 8:30 a.m. Mass. The rosary will be recited at 7:45 a.m.
BROWNSVILLE COMMUNITY CENTER, Lower Tyrone Township, 291 Banning Road, Dawson, will hold a Mother’s Day turkey dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. Meals are $7 for adults and $3 for children under age 12.
NEW SALEM AMERICAN LEGION UNIT 753 will hold a memorial service for deceased members at 7 p.m. on May 14.
HAPPY HELENS CLUB will meet at 11:30 a.m. on May 14 to recite the rosary in St. Joseph Social Hall prior to the noon meeting.
