Background checks OKd by Redstone Twp.

By Christine Haines 2 min read

REDSTONE TWP. – The Redstone Township supervisors Wednesday adopted an ordinance permitting local fire departments to conduct criminal background checks through the Redstone Township Police Department. Under the terms of the ordinance, the background checks will be for the exclusive use of the township and once the fire departments adopt the policy, they must enforce it uniformly.

Applicants to become firefighters must file a waiver with the fire department in order to have the background check conducted, then an officer with the fire department will contact the Redstone police department.

Once the background check is completed, the findings will only be given to the fire department executive who initially made the request.

In other matters, the supervisors presented a certificate of appreciation to Paul Moser for his service to the community providing emergency towing services. Moser is moving to Virginia.

It was reported that the 2002 road-paving project has been completed.

The project included Fayette Avenue, Third Street in Filbert, the community of Green Pines and portions of Braznell and Jackson roads.

Architectural drawings have been completed for the reconstruction of the Lynn Avenue Bridge between Redstone and Brownsville townships.

Both townships must approve the plans.

The reconstruction is anticipated in 2004.

The second phase of the Dunlap Creek flood control project has also been completed.

It involved removal of an old bridge pier and widening the streambed. There are six phases to the project.

Police Capt. Dennis Field said the department recently conducted a narcotics identification class for state constables and security officers at Hunters Ridge.

The class was to help the officers identify various drug paraphernalia items so they can be more proactive in their efforts against drugs in the community.

Code-enforcement officer Robert Stogran said the Fayette SPCA received 10 calls from Redstone residents in April and picked up three dogs. No citations were issued.

Stogran issued 20 citations for code violations, including 12 for high grass, five for garbage, two for building code violations and one for abandoned vehicles.
