ASBURY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, corner of Beeson Avenue and Dunbar Street in Uniontown, announces on Sunday the Rev. James Fogg will lead hymns and praise choruses at the casual 9 a.m. service while accompanied by Jim Hutchinson. Every woman present will receive a gift and special gifts will be awarded to the oldest mom attending, the mom with the youngest baby in attendance and the mom with the most children in attendance.

NEW BEGINNINGS COVENANT CHURCH, 171 Connellsville St., Uniontown, worships Sunday at 11 a.m. when the Covenant Kids Children’s Choir will present special music along with special recitations to their mothers and a special gift for all women. The service will have a contemporary and gospel mix of praise and worship directed by the praise band. The Rev. Mark Lawson will bring the message. OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP-ST. MARY’S ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH IN LECKRONE will hold the Liturgy of the Hours with Benediction on May 19 at 3 p.m. as part of the parish’s 100th anniversary celebration. George Walters (Pilgrim George) will be the guest speaker, bringing a message of peace, reconciliation and evangelization. “All of Region 18 are invited to share in this special service,’ officials said. Afterwards, light refreshments will be served in the social hall of the parish.

PLEASANT VIEW PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, located two miles west of Smock at the intersection of the Pleasant View and Royal roads, will observe Ascension Sunday at 11 a.m. worship. The Rev. Keith Conover will preach “Be My Witnesses.’ Shirley Rittenhouse will be organist. Special music will be provided by guest organist Tyler Randolph, guest pianist Andrew Higinbotham, adult vocal choir and a special Sons’ Choir (to honor mothers), which are directed by Elaine Thomas. ROSCOE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 300 Main St., will celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday with a Mother’s Day brunch, hosted by the Sunday school in fellowship hall at 10 a.m. This annual event honors the mothers of the congregation and also marks the conclusion of Sunday school classes until September.

“Military Mom’ is the title of the Mother’s Day sermon by the Rev. Dr. John Rankin at the 11 a.m. worship that follows the brunch. The service also includes congregational signing while the loose offering will support mission work of the deacons. Mary Catherine Schmidt will direct the chancel choir in singing, accompanied by church organist Tina Hixenbaugh. There will be no weekly chancel choir practice following the service.

Representatives from the church will attend Tuesday’s meeting of Washington Presbytery at the Chartiers Crossroads Presbyterian Church at 5:30 p.m. On Thursday, the church Session meets in fellowship hall at 7 p.m. Next Sunday, the church will celebrate Pentecost and Founders Day with the celebration of Holy Communion.

SS. CYRIL AND METHODIUS ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH IN FAIRCHANCE announces its schedule for May devotions: rosary and evening prayer will be followed by a social at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, Wednesday, May 22, and Wednesday, May 29. The May 14 event includes a talk with Pilgrim George Walters, whom many have come to know through Bishop Bosco’s column in the Catholic Accent. He has walked all over the world bringing a message of peace and reconciliation.

ST. GEORGE MARONITE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 6 Lebanon Terrace, Uniontown, announces the ladies’ Guild is conducting its 52nd Annual Memorial Mass and Services, honoring all the deceased ladies of the guild on Sunday, May 19, beginning at 8 a.m. with reciting of the rosary. ST. GEORGE SERBIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH IN CARMICHAELS will celebrate its patronal feast of St. George with a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy on Sunday. NEW SALEM PRESBYERIAN CHURCH is honoring one of its younger baptized members, Colby Cole, by holding a blood drive at the church on Thursday, May 23, from noon to 6 p.m. Colby is the son of Laura and Jack Cole of Miller Farm Road in Uniontown and was diagnosed with Juvenile Myelomonocystic Leukemia in January. Since then, he has received chemotherapy and total body irradiation before undergoing a bone marrow transplant. He has received numerous blood transfusions and blood platelets and is continuing to do so as necessary to combat this condition.

All blood types are accepted. The blood supply is low and this will help replace the blood supply that Colby has used.
