By Steve Ferris 3 min read

REDSTONE TWP. – A collision on Route 40 in Redstone Township Friday afternoon killed a 23-year-old Masontown woman. Deanna Lee Evans of 25 North Main St. was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:21 p.m. – about an hour after the accident occurred.

State police in Uniontown said Evans was driving east at 12:26 p.m. and left the south edge of the road while negotiating a left curve at Jackson Road.

She got her car back on the road, but the vehicle started to spin counter clockwise. It entered the westbound lane where Roy N. Randolph, 63, of 6640 National Pike, New Salem, was driving the truck.

Police determined that Randolph could not have avoided Evans and struck the passenger side of her car.

Both vehicles came to rest facing west on the highway with the truck in the westbound lane and the car in the eastbound lane.

Fayette County deputy coroner Heather Hayden pronounced Evans dead at the scene.

Firefighters from Republic and Allison 2 extricated her from severely damaged small Toyota car.

Both lanes of traffic were closed for several hours as state troopers reconstructed the accident.

Evans was wearing a shoulder harness, but not a lap seatbelt.

Randolph was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

Evans was born Sept. 3, 1978, in Morgantown, W.Va., a daughter of Linda McGalla Evans of Masontown, and the late Wade Evans.

She was a member of Nilan Apostolic Church in Nilan, employed by Call Tech Communications, graduated from Albert Gallatin High School in 1996 and received an associate degree from West Virginia Career College.

In addition to her father, she was predeceased by her grandparents, Andy and Grace McGalla and Estelle Jean Gads Endow.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by three sisters, Andrea and her husband, Wesley Shaffer Sr. of Nemacolin, Pamela Knight of Nemacolin, and Tamela and her husband, Wesley Wise of Carmichaels; two brothers, Charles Sowden III of Greensboro and Shaun Furgenson of Massachusetts; two nieces, Tisha Wise and Andrea Knight; five nephews, Jeffrey Fenton, Adam Knight, Roy Riggleman IV, Anthony Riggleman and Wesley Shaffer Jr.; a maternal grandfather, Elroy “Hopper” Enlow of McClellandtown; several aunts and uncles; and her best friend, Bobby Jo Advent of Masontown.

Friends will be received at the John S. Maykuth Jr. Funeral Home, corner of Church and River avenues, Masontown, today and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday until 1 p.m. when funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Tim Tanner officiating.
