Penn State Fayette plans career series
The Career Services Center at Penn State Fayette is offering a five-part series titled “What I Want To Be When I Grow Up.” This series will focus on career related workshops for high school students.
By attending this series, students will obtain information on career opportunities in different fields, as well as which majors support these opportunities and any scholarships which may be available. The sessions will be as follows:
Session One: “The Conversation” – a one-hour consultation between the students and the Career Services Coordinator which discusses the use of DISCOVER (an interests, abilities and values test) and gives all students the opportunity to express concerns and needs.
Session Two: “Scoring Your DISCOVER Test” – a 15-minute computer-based scoring session combined with a one-hour session on creating a database of occupations and majors that match career needs.
Time permitting, the session will include a 30-minute presentation by a professional in a field of the students’ choice (or substitute a video presentation).
Session Three: “Majoring in the Rest of Your Life” – a one-hour session that matches majors with occupational choices in order to find the best courses to complement a major and a one-hour session discussing correct high school and college majors.
Session Four: “What Colleges Best Fit My Goals” – a one-hour session that explores college choices and assists students with matching and understanding the college selection process.
Session Five: “Developing Your Scholarship Game Plan” – a one-hour session that will assist students with how to search for scholarship dollars and how to compile a complete scholarship packet.
The enrollment fee for this five-part series, which runs June 24-28, is $25.
