Henry W. Havanas
Henry W. “Bill” Havanas, 82, of Braden, Clarksville, Pa., died Saturday, May 11, 2002, at 8:05 p.m. in Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg, Pa., after a brief illness. He was born April 17, 1920, in Vestaburg, Pa., son of Steve Havanas and Gladys Brown Havanas.
A graduate of the former Centerville High School, he attended college in Michigan for 11/2 years.
During World War II he served with the United States Army from March 1942 to November 1945 and was in the European Theatre, Italy, Africa, and France, and received two Bronze Stars.
In April 1984 he retired from the Massey Coal Company.
He was a member of United Mine Workers of America Local 762 Vestaburg and also Green Valley Church of God, Carmichaels, Pa.
On May 18, 1946, he married Margaret Adamson Havanas, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Margie Farrier, Carmichaels, Pa.; a son, William Hugh Havanas, Pataska, Ohio; four grandchildren: Jennifer Catullo, Deborah Catullo, Rebekah Cade, Jeremy Havanas; and two great grandsons: Wayne Cade III and Samuel Christopher Cade.
Two brothers, Paul Hovanas and Steve Hovanas, and his parents are deceased.
Friends will be received in the GREENLEE FUNERAL HOME, 42 Bank Street at Crawford Road, Fredericktown Hill, Fredericktown, Pa., today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday, may 14, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., the hour of Services. Pastor William Williams will officiate.
Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Waynesburg, Pa.
