Man and wife file medical lawsuits
Robert E. Pento and his wife, Clara Pento, of Masontown are suing seven doctors and two medical practices, as well as Laurel Medical Imaging, Jefferson Pain and Rehabilitation Center and Uniontown Hospital, for negligence in a civil suit regarding his medical treatment. The Pentos are seeking a jury trial and damages in excess of $25,000 on each of 13 counts.
According to the civil suit, a doctor at West Virginia University diagnosed Robert Pento with non-Hodgkin lymphoma of his thoracic spine May 22, 2000.
According to the suit, that diagnosis came after he had been treated for constant and continued back pain for several months by the following doctors: Carey L. McMonagle, Peter O’Kelley, Randall D. Borland, Thomas John Spinuzza, Philip Hart, Kuk S. Lee and Corby Freitag.
The Pentos also are suing Choicecare Physicians, P.C., and McMonagle & Murello, P.C.
Pento claimed that none of the physicians was able to timely and completely diagnose signs, symptoms and complications resulting from thoracic lymphoma.
Because none of the plaintiff physicians was able to accurately diagnose his condition in a timely fashion, Robert Pento suffered paralysis and was rendered a paraplegic, the suit alleges.
Pento charged that the physicians failed to use proper evaluative procedures to determine the reason for his constant and continued back pain, suffering and discomfort.
He added that they also failed to diagnose a non-Hodgkin lymphoma mass on his thoracic spine in an appropriate and timely manner.
Pento said Laurel Medical Imaging and Uniontown Hospital failed to appropriately review and interpret film studies of Pento taken at Uniontown Hospital.
Clara Pento claimed that as result of the negligence of the defendants, she has been and will continue to be deprived of her husband’s services, comfort, society and attention.
