Truck driver dies

The driver of one of the tractor-trailers involved in an accident Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 70 in Rostraver Township died Wednesday morning in a Pittsburgh hospital.

Kim Barnett Sr. of Tulsa, Okla., died in Mercy Hospital, spokeswoman Linda Ross said.

Barnett was driving west at the Route 51 underpass when a truck driven by Lonnie Cook of Glenn White, W.Va., merged onto I-70 from northbound Route 51. The load in Cook’s trailer shifted, causing the rig to roll on to its left side and into the path of Barnett’s truck, state police said.

The cab of Barnett’s truck was lodged in the box trailer of Cook’s truck.

Cook suffered a minor injury and Barnett was flown by medical helicopter to Mercy.

Two-vehicle accident

Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of West Main Street (Route 40) and McClellandtown Road (Route 21) at 5:56 p.m. Monday, city police said.

Vehicles driven by Heather Ricco, 21, of New Salem and Karen Zavatson, 23, of Uniontown were involved in the accident. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage and were towed. Ricco and Zavatson were taken to Uniontown Hospital for treatment.

Incident alleged

Tony Lee Bradley of Murray Avenue reported to city police at 4:37 p.m. Tuesday that someone known to him allegedly spit on him and swung a stick at him at a location in Pershing Court.

Tailgate taken

Richard Hranec of Emerson Street reported to city police that a tailgate was taken from his truck while it was in front of his house sometime Tuesday night.

The tailgate was taken from a 2002 Ford F-250. It is white with Hranec Crop written on it, police said.

Eggs thrown

Lesley Collins of Uniontown told city police that a group of six to eight black males in a white Grand Prix yelled racial slurs at him and threw eggs at him while he was walking from 121 to 180 Coolspring St.

Money taken

Ramona L. Lazard of Wine Street reported to city police at 1:43 p.m. Tuesday that someone had tampered with her mail.

Lazard said on Saturday she received a letter from a friend in Maysville, Ky. That was supposed to contain a $200 money order and the letter had been opened and resealed with tape and did not contain the money order. Lazard also said she was supposed to receive a letter in the beginning of May from the same friend with $200 cash inside, and she never received it. Police are investigating.

Door damaged

Melody Jackson of Whiteman Avenue reported to city police at 7:19 p.m. Tuesday that someone known to her kicked the glass out of her door.

Criminal mischief charges are pending.

Two-vehicle collision

State police from Uniontown responded to a two-vehicle collision Tuesday at 7624 National Pike. The drivers involved were Benjamini Szalay of California and Velma Gregg of Uniontown.

State police from Uniontown cited Rachael P. Pastorius, 20, of Uniontown for underage drinking and public drunkenness at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday in Darby’s Pub and Restaurant’s parking lot.

Juvenile cited

State police from Uniontown cited a 16-year-old boy from Rose Circle in Smithfield for harassment for allegedly hitting a 15-year-old Rose Circle boy in the face and head on May 6.

Theft reported

Mary J. Pishko of 8 New Salem Ave. reported the theft of a Stealth blue emergency light from the roof of her car between 9 p.m. Monday and 6 a.m. Tuesday, state police said.

Burglary reported

The Miller Co. reported that somebody stole approximately $3,000 worth of hand and power tools from its storage garage along New Salem Road between 5 p.m. Monday and 6:45 a.m. Tuesday, according to state police.

Windshield damaged

State police from Uniontown said Allison Povlik of Connellsville reported that somebody damaged the windshield on her car that was parked at her residence on Saturday or Sunday.

Simple assault

State police said charges were file against a 15 year-old boy for allegedly assaulting a 15 year-old boy at Waynesburg Central High School at 7:43 a.m. Tuesday.

Vehicle taken

Timothy Rastetter, 42, of Waynesburg told state police that while his daughter was working at the Route 21 Burger King, her locker was entered and the keys to his teal 1993 Chevy Beretta were taken before the car was taken from the parking lot between 4 and 6:15 p.m. Tuesday. Anyone with information on the car or the incident is asked to call trooper Allen at (724) 627-6151.

Man charged

Charles Owen McKahan Jr. of Point Marion was charged with driving under the influence, fleeing and eluding police, resisting arrest and several summary violations after he failed to bring his vehicle to a stop on Route 88 at 3 a.m. Wednesday.

According to police McKahan failed to negotiate a curve on Greene Valley Road and went into a pond near Groves Road then fled on foot but was apprehended. Police said that McKahan was arraigned before District Justice Lee Watson and placed in the Greene County Jail on $7,500 cash bond.

Door damaged

Arthur Vernon, no address listed, told police that the doorframe on his trailer was damaged between 3 and 4 a.m. Wednesday.

Accident reported

State police said no injuries were reported when Dana A. Nugent, 52, of Mount Morris backed out of her driveway and struck a parked PennDOT vehicle at 8:58 a.m. Monday.
