Baccalaureate services: ALBERT GALLATIN SENIOR HIGH BACCALAUREATE SERVICE will be held this Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Glad Tidings Assembly of God, located on Route 21 between Masontown and McClellandtown. The three clergy associations that serve the Albert Gallatin School District are planning the baccalaureate service. The service will consist of a greeting and closing by the acting superintendent of schools and senior high principal. The choral department of the senior high as well as the saxophone quintet will provide special music.

Area pastors will participate in the service and the Rev. Tim Tanner will deliver the message. Participation in the service is voluntary but all members of the Albert Gallatin Graduating Class of 2002 are invited to participate. The public is welcome to attend. For more information, phone Rev. BROWNSVILLE UNITED METHODIST CHARGE observes Pentecost Sunday with the charge participating in Old Pike Days community worship service at Nemacolin Castle at 11 a.m. Members should bring their own lawn chairs. Regular services resume next week at 8:30 a.m. at West Bend, 10 a.m. at South Brownsville and 11 a.m. at Brownsville First. CATHOLIC YOUTH ASSOCIATION OF PITTSBURGH will host the 29th Annual Art Rooney Dinner at the Pittsburgh Hilton and Towers on Thursday. Rich Lackner, Carnegie-Mellon head football coach is this year’s recipient of the Bob Prince Award. James O’Toole, politics editor for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, will receive the Bill Burns Award for outstanding achievement in journalism.

CENTRAL CHRISTIAN CHURCH OF UNIONTOWN, 23 S. Gallatin Ave., on Sunday will have the Rev. Dr. W. NEW SALEM PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 27 S. Mill St., is honoring one of its younger baptized members, Colby Cole, by holding a blood drive at the church on Thursday from noon to 6 p.m. Colby is the son of Laura and Jack Cole of Miller Farm Road in Uniontown and was diagnosed with Juvenile Myelomonocystic Leukemia in January 2002. Since then, he has received chemotherapy and total body irradiation before undergoing a bone marrow transplant. He has received numerous blood transfusions and blood platelets and is continuing to do so as necessary to combat this condition.

All blood types are accepted. The blood supply is low and this will help replace the blood supply that Colby has used.

OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP-ST. MARY’S ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH IN LECKRONE will hold the Liturgy of the Hours with Benediction on Sunday at 3 p.m. as part of the parish’s 100th anniversary celebration. George Walters (Pilgrim George) will be the guest speaker, bringing a message of peace, reconciliation and evangelization. “All of Region 18 is invited to share in this special service,’ officials said. Afterward, light refreshments will be served in the social hall of the parish.

PLEASANT VIEW PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, located two miles west of Smock at the intersection of the Pleasant View and Royal roads, will celebrate Pentecost Sunday at 11 a.m. worship. The Rev. Keith Conover will preach “Catch the Wind.’ Special instrumental music will be provided by flutist Jennifer Rittenhouse, accompanied by Lee Ann Conover on keyboard. ROSCOE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 300 Main St., celebrates Pentecost and the 105th anniversary of its founding with the celebration of the sacrament of Holy Communion at Sunday’s 11 a.m. worship service. Church volunteers will be recognized for their service to the church and community with a litany, hymn and prayer rededicating the congregation to continuing Christian service. “Caleb: An ‘I Spy’ Survivor,’ is the sermon by the Rev. Dr. John Rankin. The chancel choir will sing, directed by Mary Catherine Schmidt and accompanied by organist Tina Hixenbaugh.

An art show and reception honoring Tina Marie Hixenbaugh Bolin, church organist, will be held following the 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday in fellowship hall.

The show, “Perspectives in Art,’ will feature landscapes, abstract expressionisms, figures and experimental drawings done in oils and mixed media by Bolin. She is a spring 1002 graduate from the University of Pittsburgh with a duel major in studio art and history of art and architectural design.

The 1998 California Area High School graduate has been an assistant organist and then organist for the Roscoe Church throughout her high school and college years. She has also held full-time jobs and did an internship at a Pittsburgh art gallery while taking a full load of university classes.

Bolin, with her husband, Darrell, who will graduate from Pitt in August, are also raising their son, Darrell Jr. Bolin, has been on the university dean’s list throughout the four years.

The church Session is hosting the art show and reception. Some of Bolin’s works will be for sale.

SS. CYRIL AND METHODIUS ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH IN FAIRCHANCE announces its schedule for May devotions: rosary and evening prayer will be followed by a social at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, and Wednesday, May 29.

ST. GEORGE MARONITE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 6 Lebanon Terrace, Uniontown, announces the ladies’ Guild is conducting its 52nd Annual Memorial Mass and Services, honoring all the deceased ladies of the guild on Sunday, beginning at 8 a.m. with reciting of the rosary. ST. GEORGE SERBIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH IN CAR-MICHAELS announces members of the William Kotch Family will attend the Divine Liturgy on Sunday in recognition of the placement in the altar of a large icon of the Nativity of Christ by wife Edna in honor and memory of William Kotch, who assisted the priest as an altar server until his death on March 15, 1998.

Kids’ Time with God, a program for children age 10 and under, will be held in Noah’s Room during worship. A luncheon reception will be held following the service to honor the new confirmands. Sunday school classes for children and adults will be held at 9:15 a.m. This will be he last session of Sunday school until September.

On Tuesday at 7 p.m., the pastor will hold the final session of the six-week adult study “Jerusalem – One City, Three Faiths: Origins of the Israeli/Palestinian Conflict.’

THIRD PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 425 Union St., (at Craig Meadows) Uniontown, will celebration Confirmation Sunday when members of the confirmation class as well as a number of adults will be welcomed into church membership during Sunday’s 11 a.m. worship service.

The Rev. James Tweardy will deliver the message “The Birth of the Church’ at both the 8:30 and 11 a.m. services. A Bible Sword Drill competition will take place during Sunday school, which begins at 9:30 a.m. Participants compete for partial payment of summer church camp costs. Bell choir practices have concluded for the season and will resume in September.

TRAVEL WITH JESUS, Union Station Building in Brownsville, meets today from 8 to 11 p.m. for Bible sharing – gifts and fruit of spirit; Holy Communion and prayer for revival of Brownsville. Guest teacher is Ken Bennett.

Sharp, former pastor, as guest minister for Sunday’s 11 a.m. worship service. Communion will be part of the celebration on this Pentecost Sunday. UNITED METHODIST COMMUNITY CHURCHES will host a special organ recital on June 4 at 7:30 p.m. at the Beallsville United Methodist Church, Route 40, by Dr. Alastair Stout.

Stout was born in 1975 and lives on the Shetland Isles off the North Coast of Scotland. He began playing the organ at age 10 and composing at age 12. He has performed at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, Ely Cathedral and many churches throughout Britain. From 1993-2001, he was assistant organist at Wesley’s Chapel in the City of London. In 2002, he came to the United States where he is serving as organist and director of music at the Coraopolis United Methodist Church in Pittsburgh.

INDIAN CREEK BAPTIST CHURCH, 311 Baptist Church Road, Mill Run, announces “Faith Mount: An Extreme Adventure With Jesus,’ is the theme for Vacation Bible School June 3-7 from 9 a.m. to noon. This is for children age 3 through senior high. Officials said, “We’ll grow with God, having Bible studies, lively songs, skits, crafts, games and snacks.’ Children in first grade or younger should wear a tag, including name, address and phone. The bus leaves the garage in Mill Run at 7:55 a.m., travels to Laurel Dairy Bar at 8 a.m., heads back to Mill Run, turning onto Hampton Road, turning around at Hampton Church at 8:10 a.m. Next onto Kooser road, turning at Harbaughs’ at 8:25 a.m., turns onto Fairmont Road, travels to Route 381, crosses 381 onto Baptist Church Road. Bus travels past I.C.B.C. to Shroyer Corner, turning at the end at 8:45 a.m. Bus goes left onto Baptist Church Road (past Mays’ and Broadwaters’), travels Stewarton Road to Mill Run Post Office at 8:55 a.m. Bus turns right onto Route 381, arrives at church at 9 a.m. Riders should be outside their house five minutes early.

MCCLELLANDTOWN PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, located off Route 21, will host Vacation Bible school June 3-7 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. with the theme Sun Canyon River Adventure. It includes crafts, songs, learning outdoor skills and games. Each day focuses on one Wise Skill: Follow God’s Instructions, Choose Friends Wisely, Make Peace, Show Respect and Trust Jesus.
