Facility introduces planning system

2 min read

Fayette Regional Cancer Center, located on McClellandtown Road in Uniontown, has introduced a new three-dimensional planning system that will maximize the benefits of radiation therapy for area cancer patients. Dr. Carl Jueng, medical director for Fayette Regional Cancer Center, said he was pleased to acquire this state-of-the-art system.

“Treatment planning computers are a vital improvement in radiation oncology,” he said.

“These special computers and programs allow us to view and manipulate a 3-D image of the patient’s actual tumor and thereby optimize the course of radiation therapy treatment, delivering increased accuracy of treatment planning.”

Jueng said the 3-D treatment planning system enhances the precision of radiation beam alignment and allows the total radiation dose to be optimized while protecting normal tissue.

He said that is why this 3-D treatment planning system is so important.

Jueng explained that the 3-D system complements the dual energy linear accelerator and other equipment already available at the Fayette Regional Cancer Center.

Fayette Regional Cancer Center, which is part of the accredited comprehensive cancer program at the Uniontown Hospital, has served cancer patients in the Fayette County region for more than 10 years.

Jueng said the center is devoted to the highest-quality services and technological advancements.

The acquisition of the new three-dimensional treatment planning system emphasizes the organization’s dedication to continue to provide quality oncology care to the patients of the region.

Jueng joined Fayette Regional Cancer Center as medical director in January of this year.

“Using state-of-the-art technology combined with the years of expertise in oncology treatment that we have here at Fayette Regional Cancer Center, I am confident that we are providing some of the best cancer care available,” Jueng said.

Additional information about three-dimensional treatment planning technology is available by contacting the Fayette Regional Cancer Center at 724-437-2503.
