Upper Tyrone OKs paving contract

By Jackie Beranek 2 min read

UPPER TYRONE TWP. – Township supervisors have awarded a summer paving contract to A.C. Moyer of Lemont Furnace. The contract calls for 1,751 tons of wearing course, 100 tons of leveling course and 12,698 square yards of bituminous single seal coat for paving projects in the township.

Moyer was the low bidder with a price of $69,959.28. Three other bids were received from Kendi Inc. of Scottdale at $71,233.62, Pompei and Sons of Bentleyville at $80,442.70 and Victor Paving of Monongahela at $81,501.19.

Supervisors granted permission for property owners on Everson Valley Road to connect with the Bullskin Township/Connellsville Township Sewer Authority system currently under construction.

However, they stressed that they would assume no cost or responsibility for the project.

The supervisors hired Bob Marnell of Scottdale as the new code enforcement officer. Marnell was hired to fill the vacancy created by former police officer and code enforcement officer Roger Adams, who resigned earlier this year.

Marnell will be paid $10 an hour. The supervisors said Adams was paid $8 per hour, plus he received a vehicle allowance fee.

Supervisor Chairman Jack Fullem said although the supervisors have advertised for a police officer they have received no response.

The supervisors also announced that Blue Cross/Blue Shield coverage for township employees has been raised by $243.26 per year.
