CONNELLSVILLE – No one was injured Wednesday when a car traveling along South Pittsburgh Street struck the rear of a bus occupied by elementary school students. According to Connellsville police Sgt. Vincent Traynor, Briana Lee Strickler, 21, of 1330 Sycamore Street, was unable to stop her vehicle and struck the bus in the rear as it was making a right turn onto Newmyer Avenue from South Pittsburgh Street.

The bus, driven by Wanda Lee Schetrompf, 55, of 2119 S. Pittsburgh St., was carrying 23 South Side Elementary School students at the time of the accident.

Traynor said Connellsville Area School District transportation director James Lembo responded to the scene and assisted in having the children transferred to another bus and taken to the school.

“After we were able to get everyone’s name and where they were seated, they were taken to school,” said Traynor.

School officials notified parents of the incident after their arrival.

The bus, owned by D. Grenaldo Bus Service Inc. of Connellsville sustained minor damage while the damage to Stricker’s 2001 Nissan was listed as moderate.
