Wendell D. Coffin
Friends are invited to join with Family for a Memorial Service for Wendell D. Coffin, which will be held on Saturday, May 25, at 11 a.m. in Grace Brethren Church, Grace Lane, Uniontown, Pa. The Rev. Shimer Darr will officiate. Wendell passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2002, in his home at 2813 Jennifer Drive, Lakeland, Florida. He was 89.
Mr. Coffin was born November 22, 1912, in Mill Run, Fayette County, Pa., son of Cyrus M. Coffin and Jennie M. Wortman Coffin.
Mr. Coffin was retired from Sears Service Department where he worked at the Beeson Boulevard store in downtown Uniontown, Pa., until it closed and then at the Uniontown Mall.
He was an Amateur Radio Operator.
He received the “Greetings” letter from Uncle Sam which told him to report to Fort Monmoth, New Jersey, and served four years during World War II as a Civilian teaching soldiers to install radios in tanks for the United States Army Signal Corps.
He was also an Engineer for radio stations in Uniontown, Pa., and in Florida.
Mr. Coffin was a lifetime member of Grace Brethren Church in Uniontown Pa., and in both Orlando and Lakeland, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Leona M. Wood Coffin, a brother, Frank Coffin, and a sister, Pauline Coffin Guseman.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth M. Vogel Coffin; nieces and nephews.
