Fire damages West Brownsville hotel that was slated to reopen
Early morning flames caused extensive damage to parts of the West Brownsville Hotel. The hotel had been closed for eight months during a remodeling project and was scheduled to reopen next week. According to Todd King, fire chief, flames were coming out of the bar entrance and second story windows when the West Brownsville Volunteer Fire Department arrived at the scene at approximately 4:36 a.m. Saturday.
No one was injured in the blaze.
King said the bar area received “pretty extensive” damage. He said the upper floors were moderately damaged, mostly by smoke.
“The fire did not spread throughout the upper floors, but the smoke did. We knocked (the fire) down pretty quick so we saved most of (the hotel),” King said.
King said the cause of the fire has yet to be determined and is under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshall. Information as to who owns the building was not readily available.
West Brownsville VFD was assisted at the scene by South Brownsville, North Brownsville, Hiller and Denbo-Vesta 6 fire departments.
King said they were released from the scene at 5 a.m. The West Brownsville fire department remained there until 8:30 a.m.
King said damage is estimated between $15,000 and $20,000.
He said the hotel’s reopening will be able open.
“It will have to be remodeled again. It’s going to be a while before they can open,” he said.
