Nancy R. Danca, R.N.
Nancy R. Danca, R.N., 67, a resident of Scottdale, Pa., who previously lived in Jeannette, Pa., until her relocation to Scottdale in 1993, graduate of Scottdale High School Class of 1953 and Westmoreland Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1957, Registered Nurse in the Operating Room of Jeannette District Memorial Hospital from August 1962 to April 2000, and gained recognition on August 17, 1972, as the first woman to hike and backpack Potter County’s rugged Susquehannock Hiking Trail alone for the entire 85-mile foot journey, died Friday, May 24, 2002, in the home of her niece, Mary J. Tarr and her husband, Jack, of Scottdale. She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Nancy Danca of North Arlington, New Jersey, Dolores Shaner Kozar of Mount Pleasant, Pa., Patricia Shaner Poerio and her husband, Joe, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Mary J. Shaner Tarr and her husband, John “Jack”, of Scottdale, Marlene Hostoffer Melego and her husband Regis, of Scottdale, Joanne
Danca of Scottdale, John Danca Jr. of North Arlington, New Jersey, and Eugene “Bud” Hostoffer Jr. and his wife, Maxine, of Mount Pleasant, Pa.; five great nieces, three great-great nieces, and two great-great nephews.
