Wendell L. Shea
Wendell L. Shea, age 82, of Carmichaels, Pa., died at 7:35 p.m. on Sunday, May 26, 2002, at his home. He was born March 28, 1920, in Redstone Township, Fayette County, Pa., a son of Leroy Daniel Shea and Goldie Crutchley Shea.
Mr. Shea attended the former Redstone High School in Republic, Pa.
He served as a Master Sergeant in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II as a Crew Chief of a B17 bomber. He was a member of the 452nd Bomb Squad and received the Bronze Star and Good Conduct Medals.
Mr. Shea was an avid baseball player for many leagues in Fayette County.
He retired from United States Steel Mining Company in 1982.
Mr. Shea was a member of First Christian Church of Carmichaels for over 50 years and held the offices of Chairman of the Board, Elder, and Trustee. For his faithful service to the Church he was bestowed the honor of Elder Emeritus.
His wife of 50 years, Dorothy L. Presock Shea, died on October 31, 1993. The couple was married on August 20, 1943.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Carl Shea, and his parents.
Surviving are a son, Leroy Shea and his wife, Joanne, of Carmichaels; three daughters: Joyce Boyd and her husband, Jim, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Karen Putila and her husband, Frank, of Carmichaels, and Terri Donaldson and her husband, Jeff, with whom he made his home; five grandchildren: Lori Ertel of Cincinnati, Matt Putila of Bethel Park, Pa., Wendi Donaldson of Greenwood, Indiana, Jeffrey Donaldson and Ann Putila both of Carmichaels; two brothers: Robert Shea of Carmichaels and Jack Shea of Uniontown, Pa.; two sisters: Gloria Stefan and Evelyn Marucci both of Uniontown, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the YOSKOVICH FUNERAL HOME, Martin J. Yoskovich, Funeral Director, 300 South Vine Street, Route 88, Carmichaels, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, at First Christian Church, South Market Street, Carmichaels, with the Rev. Arthur B. Mace officiating.
Interment will follow at LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, with Full Military Honors accorded by Cumberland American Legion Post 400.
