Richard S. Fields Sr.
Richard S. Fields Sr., 76, of Hopwood, Pa., passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2002, peacefully at home after a brief illness. He was born in Mt. Braddock, Dunbar Township, Fayette County, Pa., on Jan. 2, 1926. His father, Delbert S. Fields died in 1938, and his mother of 98 years, Martha Elaine Baker Fields survives.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Henry Edward in 1930; and his older brother, Delbert Jr., in 1995.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Pearl E. Fields and four children, Judy Olesh and her husband, Steve of Connellsville, Richard S. Fields Jr., of Indianapolis, Ind., Mary Ellen Friend of Uniontown, and Sandra G. Rohm Fields of Hopwood. Richard has six grandchildren, Beth and Kristi Olesh of Pittsburgh, Lisa Friend of Uniontown, Amanda Fields of Kokomo, Ind., and Michael and Matthew Rohm of Hopwood; one great-granddaughter, Deja Davis of Uniontown. One sister and four brothers also survive, Lorraine Bradstock and husband, Russell and Gerald L. Fields, Lewis A. Fields and wife, Janice, Wayne Fields and wife, Barb and Raymond Fields.
He was a World War II veteran, serving from 1943 to 1946, in the U.S. Navy Air Force on Tinian and retired from the O.C. Cluss Lumber Company, where he was employed from 1948 to 1982.
Friends will be received in the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, Hopwood, today until 2 p.m., the hour of the service, with the Rev. Paul N. Frank officiating. Burial will be private at Mt. View Cemetery, with military services being accorded by the AMVETS Post 103 of Hopwood.
