A Fayette County phone line for drug-related tips is up and running.

The number – 1-800-906-5339 – was announced at an October press conference where District Attorney Nancy D. Vernon took over as head of the county’s Drug Task Force. Problems with the phone company, however, delayed the number’s hook up.

The line rings directly to the district attorney’s office, and tipsters can leave a message with any information in hopes of law enforcement officials making an arrest.

Vernon said she wanted callers to be able to leave messages rather than talk to a person because anonymity may be a more favorable route.
