Crabby advice

Did you change the batteries in your smoke detectors like you are supposed to when you changed your clock back last week? Did you ever read the back of a 9-volt battery package? Crabby says she never did. Last week, she bought new batteries and finally read the back. Right there in black and white it says ‘Do not put batteries in your pockets.” This information came a little late for Crabby.

A couple of years ago she was changing the batteries in her smoke detectors and put one in the pocket of her jeans. She also had her keys and some change in her jeans pocket. As she walked around the house, she noticed a warm feeling slowly growing in her pocket. It soon turned into a burning sensation. She grabbed all the things out of her jean pocket and threw them on the table. Her keys were downright hot and so was the battery. Apparently, one of the keys had touched both terminals of the battery and made a circuit.

Crabby says she danced around for a minute until her pants cooled down and vowed never to put batteries in her pocket again. According to the package, 9-volt batteries can also explode, so give them a little respect – and distance.

Anyone for football?

It was Oct. 26, and “Flower Club Capers!”

Sixteen Flower Club gals and friends gathered at the beautiful home of Gayle Shetterly for a grand Halloween party. The food, to which everyone contributed, was fabulous.

However, the real fun began when Dona Brazzon proclaimed “Let the Games Begin.” With many laughs and comments of “yuk and oookie” the gals reached into paper bags and tried to feel items and decide which “body part” they represented.

Mary Matsko who came as “Rosie” the country bumpkin (complete with blacked-out teeth) was winner of best costume. The “mummy” wrapping was a hit with Helen Svec and Mary Ann Martinak winning with their wrappings. (Oh, I forgot to mention, they were wrapped in toilet paper). Lois Walters wrapped Elaine Hutchinson to where she resembled a poor soul who was in a total body cast. Mary Matsko had a bit of trouble wrapping Marcella Schwenk, as all the paper kept falling around her ankles.

During “Let me entertain you” Pam Petrosky dressed as a VERY large pink baby did a great imitation of Lily Tomlin’s “Edith Ann”, at which time Nedra Lopez (a gypsy with a bad hair day) immediately signed her up for the Perry Players Theatre group.

Lynn Murphy was decked out all in red as some sort of red-devilish person, complete with rubber mask that just about suffocated her before she could cast her spell.

Mary Ann Martinak and friend Carolyn Quarantro were so disguised as old, (and I mean OLD) women that no one knew who they were. Then there was Dona Brazzon who whipped up a quick costume from plastic bags, white paper plates, white Kleenex and napkins, etc. and came as “White Trash!’

The grand finale came with the craziest and most dangerous game of the evening in what we shall entitle “Sort-of-Steelers” or “Female Football.”

Actually, it was a wild game of musical chairs. It was violent and vicious from the first round, when Elaine Hutchinson was the first put out after trying desperately to sit of Lois Walters lap. Round and round they went with foul after foul, “holding: “roughing the kicker” and much pushing and shoving and virtually every sort of illegal move. Around the end of the first half, Norma Bordash (out for blood) sent Lynn Murphy to the floor with a new move entitled “Illegal use of the hips,” which stood her in good stead to be the winner as she put out Mary Ann Martinak in the final round and won the coveted prize.

Frazier ‘Dors, eat your hearts out, you have met your match. Needless to say, a grand time was had by all.

Those party gals are Elma Sokol, Marcella Schwenk, Helen Svec, June Rolison, Dona Brazzon, Gayle Shetterly, Lynn Murphy, Elaine Hutchinson, Lois Walters, Mary Ann Martinak, Carolyn Quarantro, Norma Bordash, Pam Petrosky, Millie Domonkos and Nedra Lopez.
