Joseph D. Butalla
Joseph D. Butalla, 77, of Carmichaels, Pa, died unexpectedly Saturday, November 2, 2002, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, West Virginia. He was born July 4, 1925, in Leckrone, Pa., son of Paul Butalla and Anna Sotak Butalla.
Joseph was a retired Coal Miner with 40 years service from Robena Mine.
He was a Veteran of the United States Navy who served during World War II in the Pacific Theatre.
He was a member of St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church in Carmichaels, United Mine Workers of America Local 6321, and Carmichaels Senior Citizens.
On February 20, 1954, he married Leona M. Stiehm Butalla, who survives.
Also surviving are four children: Franz Butalla and his wife, Helen, of Greensboro, Pa., Eugena and her husband, Edward Andreone, of Cranberry Township, Pa., Levida and her husband, Mark Rice, of Beaver, Pa., and David Butalla and his wife, Karen, of North Huntingdon, Pa.; four grandchildren: Brianna Riggi, Lauren Rice, Natalie Rice and Morgan Rice; a step granddaughter, Kristin Machesky; brothers and sisters: Stephen Butalla, Englewood, Florida, Pauline Gostyla, Clifton, New Jersey, Paul Butalla, Killen, Alabama, Justina Franklin, Nashville, Tennessee, and Helen Mirikatani, Honolulu, Hawaii.
Two children, Joseph Butalla Jr. and Elena Butalla, a brother, Eugene Butalla, and parents preceded him in death.
The Family will receive Friends in the PAUL MICHAEL LESAKO FUNERAL HOME INC., 204 Dowlin Avenue, Carmichaels, Pa., today until 9:30 a.m. when a Prayer Service will be held.
A Mass of Christian Burial follows at 10 a.m. in St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church, Carmichaels, with Rev. Fr. John Bauer as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in Laurel Point Cemetery, Carmichaels, where Full Military Rites will be accorded by Carmichaels American Legion and V.F.W.
