William A. Cherry Jr., age 82, of Smock, Pa., died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, in Uniontown Hospital. He was born Feb. 6, 1920, in Virginia, son of the late William A. Cherry Sr., and Cordelia Warren Cherry.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores Cherry; one daughter, Sylvia Hungerford; one brother, Clifton Cherry; and two sisters, Mary Marshall Caughman and Lillina Clark.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Smock, where he was a Trustee and an Usher.

William was a retired coal miner and a World War II veteran.

Surviving are the following children: Yvonne Cherry of Milwaukee, Wis., William H. Cherry of Los Angeles, Calif., the Rev. James C. Cherry and wife, Toni, of Jefferson, Pa., Gwendolyn Cherry of Grindstone, Pa., Stanley Cherry of Cumberland, Md., Darniece Cherry of Smock, Pa., and Drena J. Cherry of Hampton, Va.; brothers and sisters, the Rev. Walter Cherry and wife, Virginia, of Uniontown, Pa., Alice Rutland and husband, Elbie, of Beckley, W.Va., the Rev. Rose Ackles and husband, Robert, of Kendelton, Texas, the Rev. James L. Cherry and wife, Eunice, of Henrietta, N.Y., and Wesley Cherry of Smock, Pa.; a brother-in-law, William Clark of Hartford, Conn.; two mothers-in-law, Mattie Claybrooks and Roberta Jackson; ten grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Friends will be received in the MURIEL E. LANTZ FUNERAL HOME, 297 E. Main St., Uniontown, Pa., on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, from 5 to 9 p.m., where services will be held Friday at noon, with the Rev. Charles E. Morgan officiating. Interment will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pa.
