Paul B. Schmunk
Paul Boardman Schmunk, 80, of Farmington, Pa., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2002, in Montefiore Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born Nov. 26, 1921, in Beaver, Pa., a son of the late Paul Schmunk Sr. O.D. and MD and Ida Mae Zellweger Schmunk, O.D.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan Howard Schmunk on March 15, 1993; his sister, Marjorie Jean Clark; and a brother-in-law, Howard L. Clark.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann Schmunk; a stepson, Dean Alan Donovan of Aliquippa, Pa.; his mother-in-law, Catherine Chupa of Aliquippa, Pa.; a niece, Carol Clark Beckley and husband, Robert of Sleepy Hollow, Il.; a great-nephew, Clark Beckley and wife, Christy of St. Charles, Il.; a great-niece, Marjorie Jean Beckley of Palatine, Il.; a sister-in-law, Anna Marie Long and husband, Charles W. of Pittsburgh; his godchild, Kristen Kolb Ching and husband, Michael of Grand Bay, Ala.; and loving friends, Mrs. Frances Kolb and family of Beaver, Pa.
Paul was a member of Mt. Washington Presbyterian Church of Farmington, where he served as Deacon. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on LST 894. He was a shipfitter First Class and received an Honorable Discharge on March 28, 1952, after serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Fort Necessity V.F.W. Post No. 265, Farmington, United States LST Association, American Legion Post No. 51, Uniontown, and an Honoree of the U.S. Navy memorial, Washington, D.C. He was also a member of the Wharton Township Hunting and Fishing Club, held a lifetime membership to North American Hunting Club, and was a strong supporter of the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund.
He graduated from Beaver High School Class of 1939, and received his B.S. Degree from Geneva College, Beaver Falls Class of 1949.
Paul retired as President from Phoenix Glass/Anchor Hocking, Monaca, Pa. in November, 1983, after serving in that capacity for 12 years. He began his career there in May, 1958, in the Production Engineering Department. He also held the following positions: Salesman, Assistant Sales Manager, Sales Manager, Vice President of Sales and Executive Vice President.
Previously, he was employed as a shipfitter for the Consolidated Steel Corporation, Orange Texas, a past president of the Lake Charles Underwriters in Louisiana, and District Manager for Occidental Life Insurance Company of Raleigh, N.C.
He served on the Board of Manufacturers Association of Beaver County, Salvation Army Advisory Board of Rochester, Pa., and the Rochester Federal Savings & Loan Association. He was a life member of the N.R.S. of America, NRA Institute for Legislation Action, and the 2002 Sponsor of the NRA Whittington Center.
Friends will be received in the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, FARMINGTON, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Friday until 11 a.m., the hour of the service, with the Rev. Dr. Peter Keith officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Washington Cemetery, Farmington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or The Board of Deacons of Mt. Washington Presbyterian Church. Fort Necessity VFW Post No. 265 will accord military services at the graveside.
