St. Joan or Arc to celebrate Thanksgiving in traditional way
The word “Thanksgiving’ becomes meaningless if people don’t put the word into action, say officials of St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, located along Route 40 in Farmington. With this in mind, the parish will gather on Thursday, Nov. 28, at 9 a.m. “to give thanks and praise to Almighty God for all the blessings he has bestowed on our community.’
The church will be decorated in a style depicting this holiday that has developed through the years. The children will be dressed in costumes depicting the first Thanksgiving Day: Pilgrims and Indians. The fruit and bread around the altar will be distributed to the faithful after the liturgy to be used at the dinner table in individual homes.
This year, several hundred dollars of non-perishable food will be delivered to the St. Vincent De Paul Society in Uniontown in time to give the poor and needy the things they might need to celebrate the day that they could not furnish by themselves.
Officials said, “The ‘Beatitude Hearts’ of our worshipers always come alive in a special way when personal celebrations become so strong.’
These donations compliment the monthly gifts that are sent to the St. Vincent De Paul Society and help the church live up to its mission statement.
The service is open to the public.
Officials noted, “We are proud to say the church is usually filled to capacity. What a wonderful way to give thanks to God during these trying times and ask God for his continual blessings on our efforts to evangelize in the mountain area.’
