Arthur P. DeMotte
Arthur Paul DeMotte, 78, of Uniontown, Pa., died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at home. He was born Oct. 6, 1924, in Brookville, Pa., son of the late Arthur Clyde DeMotte and Gertrude Carberry DeMotte.
Paul was an elder/member of the Third Presbyterian Church, and served in many roles at the congregational and Presbytery level. He was a longtime Region Manager for Prudential Insurance, served in the Army Air Corp during World War II, and in 1992, received the Citizen of the Year Award from the Chamber of Commerce. He was also actively involved in the following organizations: Crawford Lodge No. 234 of F&AM of Meadville; United Way of Fayette County-First Director Emeritus of United Way Board of Directors, served as Past President of Board, Committee Chairman of the Allocations Committee, Past Campaign Chairman, received the Volunteer of the Year Award; YMCA-Past Board Member and Physical Committee Member; Rotary-Past Present, Paul Harris, Polio Plus and Rotary Walk Committees; Uniontown Area School District’s Strategic Planning Committee; Boy Scouts-District Fund Raiser for Westmoreland County District.
He graduated from Brookville High School and attended Toledo University and earned the Certified Life Insurance Underwriters degree.
Paul is survived by his wife, Ruth Johnson DeMotte; one son, the Rev. A. Paul DeMotte Jr., and wife, Liz of Austin, Texas; four daughters, Debbie Ellis and husband, Robert of Salamanca, N.Y., Beverly Santella and husband, Dwayne of Uniontown, Karen Chrise and husband, Ira of Uniontown, and Linda Pichard and husband, Thomas of Woodinville, Wash.; 12 grandchildren, Benjamin DeMotte, Julie DeMotte, Will Francis, Kristi Francis, Nathan Howitt, Seth Howitt, Stephanie Dunn, Rob Reed Jr., Josh Reed, Kyle Chrise, Cory Chrise and Lauren Pichard; two great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Abby Howitt; one brother, John DeMotte of Brookville, Pa.; one sister, Helen Shields of Sumerville, Pa.; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Friends will be received in the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC., 80 Morgantown St., Uniontown, Pa., today from noon to 2 p.m., and 6 to 8 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday at Third Presbyterian Church from 10 to 11 a.m., the hour of service, with the Rev. William D. Rodahaver and the Rev. Paul DeMotte Jr., officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Lawn Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa., where Military Rites will be accorded by VFW Post No. 47.

Masonic services will be conducted by Laurel Lodge No. 651 F&AM this evening at 7:30 p.m.
