Jordan honored The Shannopin Civic Club at Bobtown will honor Ashley Jordan, daughter of Master Sgt. Wayne and Merri Jordan of Dilliner, as the girl of the month for October.
A senior at Mapletown High School, Ashley serves as president of Students Against Destructive Decisions and treasurer of Future Business Leaders of America. Her school activities include being a member of the band, the chorus, the yearbook staff, the ski club, Youth Education Association and the varsity cheerleading squad.
She participates with the Jump Rope for Heart, the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, blood drives, American Red Cross food drives and the Angel Tree program and is a member of the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
She is owner of Jordan Vinyl Works and attends the United Methodist Church at Bobtown.
She plans to attend Slippery Rock University and major in physical therapy.
Ashley is the granddaughter of Junior and Dolly Gapen of Bobtown and Wayne and Bonnie Jordan of Greensboro.
Donations sought
Canisters have been placed in the Dilliner Convenience Store at Dilliner and the Bobtown Market, with all proceeds to be used for extra items in the holiday boxes from the Dunkard Township Food Pantry.
Canisters will be picked up today. All donations will be appreciated.
Volunteers are needed to help with the food bank on the third Tuesday of each month at the Shannopin Civic Club Hall in Bobtown, beginning at 10 a.m. Anyone with free time is asked to stop by and give a hand with the project at 8 a.m. All help is welcome and appreciated.
Party held
Joe Danko Sr. (Jedo) was honored Monday on his 75th birthday with a party at Jedo’s on the Mon.
His daughters hosted the dinner, and members of his immediate family attended.
Joe is the father of five children: Patty Lawhorne, Susan Hill, Joey Danko Jr., Denise Clark and Bernie Danko, all living in the Bobtown and Dilliner area.
Hill baked and decorated his birthday cake.
Danko is married to the former Catherine Orban Danko and is retired from the J&L Shannopin Mine at Bobtown. He enjoys his retirement with fishing and hunting trips.
The honored guest received many nice and useful gifts, and he thanked everyone for attending the occasion.
Special guest was Father Holpp.
Council meets
The administrative council for the Bobtown United Methodist Church met recently after the soup sale day and in the social room of the church, with Chairman George Gapen Jr. presiding.
The chairman opened the meeting with prayer.
It was announced that the annual Silver Offering Sunday will be held Nov. 17.
Also, plans were made for the following activities at the church for the next two months.
On Sunday, Dec. 1 the annual “Hanging of the Greens” program will be held at the morning worship service at 11 a.m.
On Dec. 15, the worship service will honor Myra Billetz for graduating from Waynesburg College. A light lunch will follow the worship service.
Also on Dec. 15 caroling and a Christmas party will be held at the church.
Everyone wishing to go caroling are to be at the church at 5 p.m. for the ride in a hay wagon. Everyone will return to the church for refreshments and fellowship, with a $2 fun gift exchange for all those who wish to participate. Connie Moody is kitchen chairperson of this event.
On Saturday, Dec. 7, along with the monthly soup sale day, Christmas cookies will be for sale. All those donating are reminded that all cookies must be freshly baked, not frozen.
On Monday, Nov. 25, at 10 a.m. all those who can help are asked to be at the church to help set up the Christmas tree and decorate the church for Christmas.
July 20, 2003, has been set for the 65th anniversary celebration of the church. Plans will be announced as they develop.
Poinsettias will be for sale and placed in the church for the holidays. More information will become available.
There will be no Saturday night worship service on Nov. 30. Each Saturday, the service is held at 6:30 p.m.
