Flenniken Library plans programs for students

CARMICHAELS – Flenniken Public Library provides free after-school tutoring and homework programs, including individual learning instruction in any subject, to students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Instruction is provided and supervised by Diann Preston, a certified Pennsylvania instructor. For more information, including times and schedules, call Preston at the library at 724-966-5263. The United Way of Greene County sponsors the program.

Also Preston is offering a program called Classroom Plus. For more details, call the library.

The library also provides GED classes on Monday and Wednesday.

Another popular activity at the library is story hour, held Tuesdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. for children 3 to 5 years old. Activities include a story, crafts and a snack. Toddler Time is held Fridays from 10:30 to 11 a.m. for children 18 months to 3 years old. Story and snacks will be provided. Registration is available at the library for all sessions. Professional storyteller Gloria Gugliotta will be at the library every third Tuesday of the month.

A teen book discussion group began meeting Sept. 24 and will meet the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. Sign up or call the library for more details.

Additionally, the library is having a book sale weekdays form 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the lower level. For more information, call the library.

Finally, the library is hosting a stop smoking with hypnosis class Nov. 18 at 6:30 p.m. Pepperlee Anderson-Noviglia, who has been a board certified clinical hypnotherapist for 20 years, conducts the program. The class is limited to 15, and the fee must be paid when registering for the class. The participants will be taught self-hypnosis and will be in a group session to stop smoking. Tape recorders are allowed. Come to the library to register.

King’s Trnasit is offering a coach bus trip to the Oglebay Light Festival. Pickup at the Flenniken Library will take place Sunday, Dec. 8, at 4 p.m. A cafeteria-style lunch stop will be made on the return trip.

The cost for the bus tour is $13 per person, which must be prepaid at registration. The deadline for registration is Saturday, Dec. 7.
