2 min read

With great sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, Alexander Wargo Jr., following a valiant two-year battle against cancer. Mr. Wargo was 86 years old. Born on June 15, 1916, and raised in Blainesburg, West Brownsville, Pa. He spent most all of his life there with the exception of ten years he spent serving in the United States Merchant Marines/Coast Guard during World War II. His years of service included travels to many worldwide ports, and he was among those Merchant Seamen decorated by the Russian government at the end of the Cold War for their aid and assistance to the citizens of Murmansk during World War II. He worked for over 30 years as a carpenter, and was a member of Local 541 United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Jointers of America. He was also a member of the Brownsville American Legion and California Hill Gun Club. He was a well liked, honest and hard working, solid man. He loved hunting, fishing, working in the garden and spending time in his home with his family. He is preceded in death by parents; and two sisters, Margaret W. Jacobs and Jewel Musar.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Frances C. (Augustine) Wargo, a retired school nurse from the California Area School District. He is also survived by his children and their spouses: Alexander C. (Bud) and Janet Wargo of Blainesburg, Pa., Rosemary and John Cassin of Kirtland, Ohio, and Carol and Paul Mosher of Vernona, Ky. He will be missed tremendously by his four granddaughters, Michelle Wargo Hill, Francine Wargo, Chrissy Cassin and Jonea Cassin, their families and two great-grandsons, each born earlier this year. Also surviving are his siblings: dearest sister and friend, Virginia “Ginny” Musar and husband, John of Newell, Pa., Betty Jean Antonucci and husband, Mario of Hiller, Pa., Robert Wargo and wife, Dorothy of Fredericktown, Pa., and John Wargo and wife, Jackie of Panama City, Fla.; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Friends will be received in the MARISCOTTI FUNERAL HOME INC., Anthony N. Mariscotti, Supervisor, 323 Fourth St., California, Pa., on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and until 11 a.m., on Friday, when a blessing service will be held with the Rev. Fr. Paul Gruenbach officiating. Interment will be in LaFayette Memorial Park.
