Companies announce recalls
WASHINGTON (AP) – Two companies are separately recalling flashlights for children and school supply sets because they could cause injuries. Eveready Battery Co., of St. Louis, is recalling about 24,000 Energizer Kidz Club flashlights because they can overheat, causing the batteries to leak. Eveready has received three reports of the flashlights overheating, including one report of a 4-year-old boy suffering a minor burn to his hand, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Tuesday.
The recalled flashlights are about 6 inches long, take “C” batteries and have a metal barrel and a plastic rotating head. The model number FC230KBP appears on the package and the words “Energizer Kidz Club” are on the flashlight’s head. The flashlights were sold at discount department and toy stores nationwide from April through October for about $6.
The safety commission said consumers should take these flashlights away from children immediately and remove the batteries. Consumers can call 1-800-669-6394 for instructions on returning the flashlights for a refund.
Separately, Damo Plus Corp., of Vernon, Calif., is recalling about 26,000 school supply sets that contain razor knives that could cut children. The recalled supply sets are sold in 8-inch plastic cases with writing that says “10 PIECE SET PENCIL CASE & PENCIL HOLDER.”
The sets include the razor knife, pencils, scissors, a ruler, an eraser, a compass and a tube of glue. Writing on the colored case also says “LITTLE WHITE,” “LITTLE ARTIST,” “GOOD FRIENDS” or “ZHONG BAIO REN.”
The pencil sets were sold at discount and dollar stores in California, Texas, Washington state and Maryland between June and October. Consumers can return them to the stores where they were purchased for a full refund or make a collect call to 1-323-583-8484 for more information.
