The Uniontown Rotary named Evan McCann, 17, son of Fred and Marian McCann of Hopwood, as student of the month for September. A senior at Laurel Highlands, Evan ranks in the top 10 of this class in academic honors and plans to attend Carnegie Mellon University or Penn State, University Park, where he has already been accepted into the electrical engineering department.
Evan is a member of the student government, National Honor Society, the junior varsity and varsity baseball teams for four years and the ski club, was named LH student of the month several times and was the district’s representative for Hugh O’Brien leadership. He is also a volunteer for the Hopwood Village Project, the food bank for Hugh O’Brien, served as a tour guide for Mount St. Macrina and is a summer employee of the Jewish Community Center.
