Blood screening to be offered
CALIFORNIA – With just a small sample of blood, doctors can diagnose many ailments. California Rotary, in conjunction with Brownsville General Hospital, will offer a Multiphasic Blood Screening on Saturday, Nov. 23, from 7 to 10 a.m. at the California Untied Methodist Church, Third Street, California.
The Multiphasic Blood Screening includes 30 separate tests run on a small sample of blood drawn by medical technologists from the laboratory at Brownsville General Hospital. The tests can reveal anemia, lung disease, high cholesterol, diabetes, blood disorders and many other disorders. The blood test also can detect diseases of the liver, kidneys, heart and circulatory systems.
Commenting on the benefits of the multiphasic blood screening, Mona Zaglama, M.D., pathologist at Brownsville General Hospital, said, “Having a multiphasic screening provides you with an affordable way to be responsible for your health and well being. In conjunction with your family doctor, the blood test is a good way to participate in wellness and prevention for the whole family.”
Lab professionals from Brownsville General Hospital will conduct the testing, which takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes. A 12-hour fast is required. Anyone currently taking medication should consult his or her family physician before fasting. Test results will be sent to the participant’s family doctor. The testing is offered at a cost of $20 and additional testing is available at affordable pricing.
