Schedule announced Brownsville Area School District announced the modified kindergarten schedule for when it becomes necessary to delay the start of the school day for one hour due to snow/icy conditions, or for any other reasons.

Modified kindergarten one hour school delay schedule: a.m. kindergarten session – morning kindergarten student bus stop pick-up, one hour later than normal; morning kindergarten students report to school, 9:30 a.m.; morning kindergarten classes begin, 9:50 a.m.; morning kindergarten classes end, 12:30 p.m.; morning student bus stop drop-off, one half hour later than normal. p.m. kindergarten session – afternoon kindergarten bus stop pick-up, one half hour later than normal; afternoon kindergarten students report to school, 12:20 p.m.; afternoon kindergarten classes begin, 12:30 p.m.; afternoon kindergarten classes end, normal time; afternoon bus stop drop off, normal time.

Modified kindergarten two hour school delay schedule: a.m. kindergarten session – morning kindergarten student bus stop pick-up, two hours later than normal; morning kindergarten students report to school, 10:30 a.m.; morning kindergarten classes begin, 10:50 a.m.; morning student kindergarten classes end, 1 p.m.; morning student bus stop drop-off, one hour later than normal. p.m. kindergarten session – afternoon kindergarten bus stop pick-up, one hour later than normal; afternoon kindergarten students report to school, 12:50 p.m.; afternoon kindergarten classes begin, 1 p.m.; afternoon kindergarten classes end, normal time; afternoon bus stop drop off, normal time.

Registration under way

Westmoreland County Community College is conducting registration for spring credit classes, which are scheduled to begin Monday, Jan. 6.

Students may register for classes through a variety of methods, including in person at any WCCC location, as well as by fax, mail or phone at 1-800-262-2103.

Returning students may also register by using the automated telephone registration system or via the Internet at wccc4me.org.

Weather schedule

The Uniontown Area School District has announced their procedure for school closings and/or delays in the event of unfavorable weather.

The school district will notify area radio stations of any cancellations or delays by 5:30 a.m. Local radio stations offering this service are WMBS; FROGGY; PICKLE; KDKA, Pittsburgh; and WFRB, Frostburg, Md. Television stations are KDKA Channel 2, WTAE Channel 4 and WPXI Channel 11.

According to existing school board policy, if one school in any part of the district is forced to close, all schools in the Uniontown Area School District will close. Morning kindergarten will be available for those who wish to attend.

Unless otherwise announced, afternoon dismissal times will remain the same as on a normal day.

Holiday tree planned

California University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate Social Worker Association is once again setting up a holiday tree on behalf of the Home Based Early Head Start children.

The Christmas tree is on display in the World Cultures Building near the vending machines. The tags on the tree identify the names and ages of children. Gifts may be deposited in World Cultures Room 301 no later than Dec. 9.

New Web site open

The new version of the California University of Pennsylvania Web site is now available.

The site, www.cup.edu, was designed and developed by a team of students, faculty, staff and administrators. In the following weeks, the enter Web site will be converted into the new templates and new pieces will be placed online each day.

Tea luncheon planned

California University of Pennsylvania’s Southpointe Center in Canonsburg will host a poinsettia tea luncheon Friday, Dec. 6, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Featured guest speaker will be Michelle Wright, news anchor for WTAE Channel 4.

Seating for the luncheon is limited and registration is $20. Proceeds will benefit the Cal U Southpointe Book Scholarship Fund for adult students.

California University of Pennsylvania’s Southpointe Elf Bookshelf project was created to collect 1,000 children’s books for needy and abused children in Washington and Fayette counties.

The books will be distributed to various elementary schools, hospitals and shelters in both counties. To help support he effort and for more information, call the Cal U Southpointe Center at (724) 873-2760.
