Edward L. Johnson
Edward L. Johnson (Uncle Ed), 79, of Uniontown, Pa., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, Nov. 20, 2002, in Frick Memorial Hospital, Mount Pleasant, Pa., following a lengthy illness. He was born Oct. 20, 1923, in Blairsville, Pa., son of the late Henry Johnson and Sophia Webb Johnson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Francis, Robert and Chester; and three sisters, Bertha, Alberta and Margaret.
Ed was a Charter member of the Interfaith Assembly for Christ Church, where he served as Chairman of the Trustee Board for many years, a member of the Senior Choir and Sunday school; and a stalwart member of the Wednesday Evening Prayer Service.
He was a retired Federal Employee, having worked for the U.S. Government for 31 years in Maryland, Pittsburgh and Johnstown, Pa., before settling in Uniontown, Pa.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Gloria Johnson; four children, Edward L. Johnson II and wife, Lakeitha of Manchester, Ga., Brenda J. Davis of Waco, Texas, and Bruce H. Johnson and wife, Paula and Gloria “Taunie” Taylor and husband, James, all of Uniontown, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five nieces; and his father-in-law, Charles Lovette and wife, Carolyn of Santa Cruz, New Mexico.
Friends will be received in the MURIEL E. LANTZ FUNERAL HOME, 297 East Main St., Uniontown, Pa., today from 6 to 9 p.m., where services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Howard E. Dantzler Sr., officiating. Interment will be in Mount Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa.
