James W. Stevenson Sr.

James W. Stevenson Sr., 57, of Smithfield R.D. 3 (Outcrop), Pa., died at 12:30 a.m., on Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, in Uniontown Hospital, following a brief illness. He was born Aug. 29, 1945, in Nicholson Township, Pa., the son of the now late William F. Stevenson Sr., and Emma Jennings Stevenson.

He was a lifelong resident of Fayette County and had attended and supported the Outcrop Apostolic Church, along with his wife, Marge, and James was a 1963 graduate of Albert Gallatin High School.

Upon graduation from high school, Jim worked in the Service Departments of Fike Chevrolet of Masontown, Bill Brown’s Sunoco Station of Masontown, and Mills Texaco of Smithfield. He had great knowledge and a great love for automobiles, trucks of all kinds and mechanics.

In later years, he owned and operated a garage and a number of dump trucks at Morris Cross Roads, where he served the people of Springhill and Nicholson Townships, as a mechanic.

Jim was by profession a tri-axial truck driver and through the years, he had driven for The Wise Coal Company, Bortz Coal Company, and retired from the Rondell Trucking Company of Uniontown.

Jim was also a dear friend, assistant and coach driver for the Brownfield Funeral Home for the past 28 years. He will certainly be sadly missed by and long remembered by all he helped and touched.

Surviving are his loving wife of 36 years, Marjorie; the following children, Richard Stevenson and wife, Lori of Uniontown, James W. Stevenson Jr., and wife, Donna of Smithfield, Rhonda and husband, Mike Robinson of Masontown, and Vicki Guthrie and her mother, Florence Workman of Smithfield; 12 grandchildren, Richard, Justin, James W. III, Jeremy, Jennifer, Morgan, Shane, Florence, Jodi, Bradley and Randi and Ebony; a sister, Shirley Gomer and husband, Jerry of Masontown; and two brothers, Gary Stevenson of Masontown, and Bill Stevenson of Carmichaels.

Friends were received on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m., and will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., in the JOHN F. BROWNFIELD FUNERAL HOME OF SMITHFIELD, where services will be held on Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at 11 a.m., with Pastors Mary Shultz and Joann Able officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Moriah Baptist Cemetery of Smithfield.
