Florence C. Colaiuta
Florence C. Colaiuta, 67, of Uniontown, Pa., passed away peacefully on Friday, Nov. 22, 2002. She was born on April 4, 1935, in Youngstown, Pa., a daughter of Catherine (Concheck) Bodnar of Yukon, Pa., and the late George Bodnar Sr.
In addition to her father, her husband, Arthur P. Colaiuta Jr., and a great-granddaughter, Erica Savel preceded her in death.
Florence was a lifelong member of St. John’s the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church. She worked diligently for 27 years as a lab technician for Highlands Hospital, formerly The Connellsville State Hospital. Later, she continued as a lab technician in several private physicians’ offices for many years. Her love of gardening, and the close relationship with her brothers and sisters brought her great joy.
She was the oldest insulin dependent survivor of Juvenile Diabetes on record in the United States and of the entire world. Her exceptional positive outlook and strength of spirit enabled her to fulfill her career as an exceptional lab technician, and in the endless pursuit to create a beautiful and loving home for her family.
In addition to her mother Catherine, she is survived by two daughters, Marlene F. Lavery of Uniontown, Pa., and Sharon Evans and husband, Manuel of Fairchance, Pa.; five grandchildren, Kristie Lavery, Kelly Savel, Kimberly Nicola and husband, James and Kevin Zuzak and Eric Smith; two great-grandchildren, Haley Savel and Vaughn Savel Jr.; five brothers and sisters, George Bodnar Jr., and fianc?e, Charlotte Steich of Lemont Furnace, Pa., Joann Babilya and husband, Joseph of Yukon, Pa., Robert Bodnar Sr., of Uniontown, Pa., Lawrence Bodnar and wife, Concetta of Greensburg, Pa., and Cathy Cross and husband, Richard of Houston, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the HAKY FUNERAL HOMES INC., A Dignity Memorial Provider, 139 West Fayette St., Uniontown, Pa., today until 9 a.m., when closing prayers will be said. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:30 a.m., in St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, with the Rev. Fr. William J. Kiel as celebrant.
Interment will follow in Mt. Macrina Cemetery.
