Structure fire

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries battling a fire at 34 West Coffey St. Sunday afternoon.

Uniontown Fire Department Captain Chuck Coldren said the fire does not appear suspicious but the state police fire marshal has been called to determine the cause and origin. The fire was reported at 1:15 p.m.

The owner of the older, two-story wood frame home is Todd Jacobs of South Carolina. The William Hart family of 14 was renting the home, which was completely gutted, Coldren said.

When firefighters arrived, everyone was out of the house, including the four children who range in age from 2 to 16. Of the two Uniontown firefighters who were injured, one had debris in his eyes and the other suffered a minor burn to his hand. Coldren said 27 firefighters responded.

In addition to Uniontown, the West Leisenring, North Union, Hopwood and Monarch fire departments assisted. Uniontown EMS and police also responded, according to the Fayette County 911 Center.

The American Red Cross assisted the family.

Buchanon Road

One-vehicle accident

No injuries were reported in a one-vehicle accident on Buchanon Road, two miles east of Breakneck Road, at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, state police said.

A vehicle driven by Jennifer Dawn Herman, no address listed, was traveled east when she failed to negotiate a curve, struck an embankment and rolled over.

West Brownsville

Traffic accident

No injuries were reported in a one-vehicle accident at the intersection of routes 88 and 40 at 3:30 a.m. Sunday, state police at Belle Vernon said.

A vehicle driven by Todd Shimkanin, 35, of California was traveling on the ramp when he lost control. The vehicle sustained moderate damage.

Washington County

Criminal mischief

The bumper was broken off of a 1999 Great Dane box trailer and a rear door on it was damaged while it was in the parking lot of the BP station at the intersection of routes 519 and Interstate 70 between 9:30 p.m. Friday and 2:30 p.m. Saturday, state police at Washington said.

The owner of the trailer is NJS Transport of Carmichaels.

Lost telephone

Amanda Thomas of Uniontown reported to city police at 4:24 p.m. Saturday that she lost her cellular telephone in the area of 44 Varndell St.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-430-2929.

Burglary

Christopher Floyd of 37 Varndell St. reported to city police at 3:19 p.m. Saturday that various items were taken from his home after it was broken into.

Floyd said he has been away for the past month and discovered the burglary when he returned home. A brick was used to break a window for the thieves to gain access, police said. Taken were rings, watches, jewelry, medicine and other items. Police are investigating.

Assaults alleged

Two men reported to city police that they were assaulted after they were asked to leave Mahoney’s early Sunday.

Roger Nativio, address unavailable, reported to city police at 3:52 a.m. Sunday that someone at Mahoney’s Bar on East Fayette Street allegedly assaulted him after he was asked to leave. Roger Matibio, address unavailable, reported that he was assaulted at 2 a.m. after he was asked to leave. He suffered injuries to his head, face, elbow and knees.

Police are investigating.

Underage drinking

Eight people were cited for underage drinking following an incident at the Mount Vernon Inn at 2:17 a.m. Sunday, city police said.

The citations were issued after police responded to a report of people kicking over garbage cans. Cited were: Chris Thomas, 20; Aaron Murphy, 18; two 17-year-old males; two 17-year-old females and one 16-year-old female. A 23-year-old male was not cited.

Theft from vehicle

A Pioneer compact disc player was taken from a vehicle parked in the lot near Mahoney’s on East Fayette Street between 11 p.m. Saturday and 2:15 a.m. Sunday, city police said.

The passenger window was broken for the thieves to gain access. The owner is Jason Mansberry.

Attempted carjacking

City police are investigating an attempted carjacking that occurred at 1:18 a.m. Sunday near the Highland House on Main Street.

The owner of the vehicle is Jeff Pikulsky. Additional information was unavailable.

Assault alleged

Lynn Banner of South Mount Vernon Avenue reported to city police at 10:35 p.m. Saturday that she was hit on the side of the face by someone known to her.

Hazel Hassinger of Heritage Apartments on West Peter Street reported to city police that her Wal-Mart credit card was taken from her purse while she was eating dinner at 6:28 p.m. Sunday.

Stalking reported

Cindy Franks, a manager at KFC on Morgantown Street, reported to city police at 6:21 p.m. Sunday that a terminated employee followed her in her vehicle.

The incident occurred Saturday morning.

Pop machine burglarized

An unknown amount of money was taken from a Pepsi machine after it was broken into at the Fayette Golf Course, city police said.

The incident was discovered at 2:17 p.m. Sunday.

Apartment ransacked

An apartment on Ben Lomond Street was entered and ransacked between Friday and Sunday, city police said.

A cordless telephone was taken and pancake syrup was poured over the floor and walls. The victim is Suzette M. Anderson.

Uniontown

Man charged

A 31-year-old man is facing various charges after leading city police on a pursuit early Monday.

Kenneth Wayne Gauletts is facing the charges. Police said Gauletts was cited for driving with an expired license after he was stopped at 1:09 a.m. The stop marked the second time police had seen Gauletts.

A short time later, he was seen driving again and eluded police and drove into Hopwood. He is facing charges of recklessly endangering another person, fleeing police and summary offenses.

Charges filed

Police have filed charges against the following individuals in unrelated incidents:

– Stephen Geyer, 19, of 107 E. Cedar Ave., for public drunkenness after he was allegedly found intoxicated along West Crawford Avenue on Nov. 3.

– Jason E. Staley, 25, of 1641 Pittsburgh St., South Connellsville, for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct after he was allegedly found intoxicated and creating a disturbance at a McCormick Avenue business on Nov. 23.

– Sonya Harris, 24, of 117 N. 6th St., for criminal mischief after she allegedly damaged two tires on a car belonging to a Connellsville man on Nov. 11.

Burglary

State police said charges are pending against a Uniontown man accused of entering the McClellandtown home of Artensy Brown Saturday at 10:30 p.m. and began waving a gun near Lorrenzo Thomas, also of McClellandtown.

Hit-and-run probed

State police said an unknown driver struck a parked vehicle owned by Betty Jane Metts, 74, of Uniontown, along Amend Road Nov. 16 at 1 a.m.

and fled the scene.

Retail theft

State police said two men ordered $22.89 worth of food from Janet’s Diner Sunday at 3:30 a.m. and left the restaurant without paying.

Douglas W. Stimell of Smithfield told state police someone entered his van sometime between 11 p.m. Saturday and 5 a.m. Monday and took several items.

Harassment

Gloria Houseman of Uniontown told state police a Uniontown man grabbed and twisted her arm Sunday at 9:45 p.m. in Bierer Wood Acres.

One-vehicle accident

State police said Emma Ferek of Brownsville struck a deer while traveling along Route 40 Wednesday at 4:25 a.m. Ferek was not injured in the accident, police said.

Purse stolen

Erica L. Nevills, 16, of Uniontown told state police someone stole her purse from the employee room of the McDonald’s along Route 21 sometime between 4 and 4:15 p.m. Friday.

No injuries

State police said Dawn R. Everly, 31, of Adah, traveled off Ralph Road and struck a railing Saturday at 4:06 a.m. Everly was not injured, police said.

Fence damaged

Robert Van Verth, 51, of Uniontown told state police someone damaged his wooden fence Saturday at 11:16 p.m.

Window broken

Christie Varney, 22, of Uniontown told state police a Lemont Furnace man smashed a window at her home sometime Sunday or Monday.

Door damaged

James Ashton, 47, of Smithfield told state police someone damaged a door on his Haydentown Hill Road home sometime Sunday.

Criminal mischief

Violet F. Harvey told state police someone shot paintballs at her Grindstone Road home Nov. 10 at 10:19 p.m.

Items taken

Jessi L. Robbins of Keisterville told state police someone entered her vehicle at an unknown time and stole several compact discs.

South Union Twp.

ATV found

State police said an all-terrain vehicle was found along Stadium Drive Sunday at 5:50 p.m. in some high grass. Anyone who wishes to claim the vehicle should contact Trooper George Mrosko at 724-439-7111.
