Ray G. Anthony Scholarship recipients announced

The Ray G. Anthony Scholarship Committee has announced this year’s scholarship recipients. They are Jaclyn Adamski, Joshua Baker, Karim Boudadi, Elizabeth Carlyle, Nicole Charlesworth, Julie Lynn Flannery, Elizabeth Garbutt, Natascha Hribal, Jillian Rice, Jennifer Riley, Kristina Rokocki, Kelli Shimborske and Luke Wetzel. Four of the honorees are from Fayette County.

A Laurel Highlands High School graduate, Garbutt, is the daughter of Gary and Barbara Garbutt of Uniontown. While in high school, she amassed a 4.3 grade point average and finished second in her class. She will attend Brandeis University in Massachuetts.

Hribal, a graduate of Albert Gallatin High School, is the daughter of Tammy Hribal-Wiland of Uniontown. An outstanding student, she completed her studies at AG with a 4.22 grade point average and finished fifth in her class. She will attend Waynesburg College.

Rice, the daughter of Ralph and Julie Rice of Grindstone, is a graduate of Brownsville Area High School. While at Brownsville Area, she completed her studies with a 3.8 grade point average and will attend Pennsylvania State University.

The daughter of Walter and Mary Shimborske, Shimborske is a graduate of Brownsville Area High School where she finished with a grade point average of 4.3, ranking number two in her class. She will attend California University of Pennsylvania.

The other honorees and the high schools from where they graduated are Adamski, Keystone Oaks High School; Baker, Trinity High School; Boudadi, Hempfield Area Senior High School; Carlyle, North Catholic High School; Charlesworth, South Allegheny High School; Flannery, North Hills High School; Riley, South Allegheny High School; Rokicki, Baldwin High School; and Wetzel, Bethel Park High School.

The Ray G. Anthony Scholarship Fund is supported in large part by Ray G. Anthony, a successful businessman and philanthropist. Anthony started a crane company in Republic in Fayette County and developed it into the largest crane company in the world. He is currently the president and CEO of Anthony Holdings International.

Members of the scholarship committee are chairman James T. Davis, a Uniontown attorney; Sam McPherson, general manager of Power Piping; Sam Anthony, vice president of Anthony Holdings International; Pat Risha, superintendent of South Allegheny School District; Mike Gottfried, former University of Pittsburgh football coach and ESPN sports commentator; Dr. Philip Ripepi, oncologic surgeon of Pittsburgh; and William Kania, certified public accountant and ex officio member of the board.
