Hazel M. York
Hazel Marie York, 91, of Bethel Boro, Pa., formerly of Mount Braddock, Pa., died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002, at Bristol Manor, Uniontown. She was born Oct. 18, 1911, in the State of Tennessee, daughter of the late Blaine Howard and the late Roxie Baldwin Howard.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry York, who died in 1963; two sons, Benjamin York and Alvin York; brothers, John, James and Robert Howard; and sisters, Eula Keffer, Gladys Maddas, Virginia Martin and Esther McDowell.
In her lifetime, Hazel touched many lives by her love, memories and lessons. She dedicated her life to helping others. She loved to cook and have family get-togethers until she got so she could no longer do this.
She was a member and held many offices in Mount Braddock Methodist and Fairview United Methodist Churches. She was the church treasurer for 29 years, and Sunday School Superintendent for 23 years.
She worked for Kaufman’s Department Store in Uniontown, as a salesperson, until her retirement.
Surviving are the following children, Althea Moyer and husband, James, of Shady Grove and Floyd York of Bethel Boro; a daughter-in-law, Eleanor York of Shady Grove; grandchildren, Zelda Wilson, Mona Collins, Drena Bennett, Jayme Williams and Bobbi Jordan; nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; a sister, Jessie Salatino and husband, Pete, of Connellsville; and brothers-in-law, Wilbert Keffer of Ohio, and Harry McDowell of Connellsville.
Friends were received in the BURHANS-CROUSE FUNERAL HOME, 28 Connellsville St., Dunbar, Pa., on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, from 7 to 9 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, from noon to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where funeral services were held on Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Jeffrey Popson officiating. Interment will be in Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown.
