Daniel L. Winger II
Daniel L. Winger II, 81, of Carmichaels, Pa., died at 8:20 a.m., on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at the Greene County Memorial Hospital, Waynesburg, Pa. He was born April 13, 1921, in Indiana, Pa., a son of the late Daniel L. and Elizabeth McHenry Winger.
Mr. Winger was a 1938 graduate of Indiana High School, and received a B.S. in Vocational Education from the University of Pittsburgh.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the American and European Theaters with the 922nd Military Police Escort Guard. Mr. Winger later served with the 477th Truck Regiment and the 10th Mountain Ski Division in Camp Hale, Colo.
Mr. Winger resided in Carmichaels, most of his life and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Carmichaels. He worked as a mechanic at Baily’s Garage in Carmichaels, for 16 years. Mr. Winger later taught auto mechanics at the Greene County Vocational School for 16 years, until his retirement in 1985.
His wife, Mildred Vignovitch Winger, whom he married on Jan. 27, 1947, survives. Also surviving are a son, Daniel L. Winger III of Waynesburg, Pa.; a daughter, Marilyn Winger Showalter of Cleveland, Ohio; two grandchildren, Monica Brisar and Michelle Showalter; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Joseph Winger and Paul Gordon Winger; and three sisters, Sarah Elizabeth Heffelfinger, Mary Clare Wensheimer and his twin, Frances Jane Zebley.
Friends will be received in the YOSKOVICH FUNERAL HOME, Martin J. Yoskovich, Funeral Director, 300 South Vine St. (Route 88), Carmichaels, Pa., on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Friday, Oct. 4, 2002. The Rev. Roger C. Saunders will officiate. Interment will follow at Laurel Point Cemetery, Carmichaels, Pa. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Building Fund of the First United Methodist Church, 104 West South St., Carmichaels, PA 15320.
