Bowlby Library to welcome outdoors writer

WAYNESBURG – Fayette County native and outdoors writer Ben Moyer will be featured at Eva K. Bowlby Library on Thursday, Oct. 17, at 6 p.m. Moyer, who writes outdoor news, columns, editorials and feature stories, published his first book, “Out Back, Reflections from the Appalachian Outdoors,” in January. His writings on the personal value of the outdoor experience and essays on natural resource conservation issues have appeared in numerous local, state and national publications.

Copies of Moyer’s book will be available for purchase at the library. For information about the event, call Diana at 724-627-9776.

Other events scheduled at the library in October are the following:

– 55 Alive Program, a refresher training course for licensed Pennsylvania drivers age 55 and older, will be held Oct. 22 and 24 from 1 to 5 p.m. The training covers new laws and regulations, and those who complete the course are eligible for a 5 to 10 percent discount on car insurance. The program is presented by AARP, and a $10 fee is required at the time of training. To sign up, call 724-627-9776.

– The Bowlby Library Book Club will meet Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 6 p.m. and will discuss “Follow the River” by James Alexander Thom.

– The Poetry Group will meet Friday, Oct. 25, from 4 to 6 p.m., and the library trustees will meet Monday, Oct. 21 at 6:30 p.m. Library issues will be discussed and the public is invited to attend.

– Storytime registration is under way, and the schedule from Oct. 8 through Dec. 12 is as follows: Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., 3-year-olds; Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m., 4-year-olds. On Wednesdays at 2 and 5 p.m., sessions will be held for children 18 to 35 months old. Stories Under the Moon will be told Wednesdays at 6 p.m. for 3- to 6-year-olds.

– Learn-A-Test.com, the online learning center for interactive test preparation, is available at the library. Some of the tests available for access include Civil Service Exams, EMT Basic, ASVAB, SAT verbal and math, College Prep ACT and SAT, nurses aide and corrections officer.
